Project Accountant

Lucas Systems' growth has created a new opportunity for a Project Accountant. The Project Accountant will provide financial support, guidance and oversight for company projects and be involved in all of the financial aspects of the project lifecycle. Reporting to the Controller, the primary responsibility of this role will be to support the finance team and the project team regarding contract performance, reporting, purchase orders, customer payments and any other duties related to the project. All items must be assessed and recorded in compliance with GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing project budgets
• Ongoing review and monitoring of project progress
• Investigating variances
• Tracking and forecasting project time (in conjunction with the project managers)
• Revenue and expense recognition based on project progress (in accordance with GAAP)
• Providing project managers with timely financial reports
• Assess / forecast profitability of projects
• Ensuring customers are billed
• Managing customer collections
• Preparing purchase orders for items required under the projects
• Assistance in other areas of the accounting function, as needed

Experience / Education

• Bachelor's Degree in accounting, or similar
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar would be advantageous
• 3 to 5 years of experience as a project accountant, or similar (e.g., project specialist)
• Knowledge of project management process (PMP) is a plus
• Proficiency in electronic accounting systems, NetSuite preferred
• Powerful skills in using spreadsheets (MS Excel) and other reporting tools
• Ability to report on projects and communicate to the project managers
• Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries and account reconciliations
• Exceptional ability to prepare project budgets and financial forecasts
• Extensive experience in project invoicing and billing
• In-depth knowledge of best practices in accounting (GAAP)
• Excellent communication skills toward effective collaboration
• Ability to multitask, including managing several projects simultaneously
