The primary focus of the Accounting department is to provide strong financial support and business partnering for the day-to-day finance and accounting activities across all departments of nCino. Under guidance, the Project Accountant will be responsible for reviewing the creation and closure projects, analyzing and reporting on financial metrics related to projects, contributing to instilling best practices for project maintenance, and accurately recognizing project-based revenue by working closely and effectively with the Professional Services team.

Under guidance, the Project Accountant will be responsible for reviewing the creation and closure projects, analyzing and reporting on financial metrics related to projects, contributing to instilling best practices for project maintenance, and accurately recognizing project-based revenue by working closely and effectively with the Professional Services team.
Responsibilities
- Create project records in the accounting system, NetSuite, and review the set-up and maintenance of project records that align with the established statements of work
- Prepare and maintain project budgets - review project budgets and monthly project costs to ensure that all costs are properly charged and billed based on contract terms
- Prepare and maintain burn summaries for all projects with time and expense billings
- Create all project-related billings to customers
- Review and approve billable expense reports submitted by the Professional Services Team
- Investigate project expenses not billed to customers
- Respond to requests for more detail from customers
- Analyze project data to identify incorrect coding, time and expense errors, and facilitate corrections
- Review and maintain project-related records, including statements of work and change orders
- Review and validate billing system invoice calculation and application of caps, fees, and indirect rates as needed
- Understand revenue recognition, project invoicing, journal entry preparation and general accounting rules
- Resolve complex invoicing issues that arise due to unique billing requirements, project adjustments, or system issues
- Ensure that project teams fulfill all obligations in a timely manner in accordance with established statement of work
- Liaison between Finance and other company functions such as Customer Success
- Review and close out project accounts upon project completion
- Report on project profitability to management
- Review and approve amendments to customer contracts
- Reconcile departmental revenue accounts on a monthly basis
- Compile information for auditors, as required
- Prepare assigned non-project related invoices as needed
- Perform additional assignments, as directed by the Accounting Manager
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and 2 years of professional work experience in finance or accounting or combination of equivalent education, experience or superior performance
- Possess an understanding of project accounting
- Possess strong financial and analytical skills
- Possess extensive knowledge of Excel and its capabilities (i.e. Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Be able to pay close attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Well organized to focus on multiple tasks
- Self-motivated
- Deadline oriented
- Ability to learn new systems quickly
Desired:
- Finance or Accounting degree
- NetSuite system experience
- Salesforce.com system experience
