Position Purpose  

The Project Designer role at TAIT Towers serves as a critical link between our clients' creative visions and the realization of those visions into tangible projects. As a multi-tiered position, we are open to candidates with varying skill sets and experience levels, with a particular focus on Tier I or II proficiency. This position works closely with the Project Management, Estimation, Assets, Design & Engineering teams to help maintain an accurate conceptual design with consideration into budget and physics. Project Designers should be knowledgeable of TAIT’s history and capabilities, to represent the Enterprise brand and collaborate with Clients. Alongside the Project Management and Business Development teams, a Project Designer will often work directly with our clients.

Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities 

Design and Render full concept models of complex custom projects to be communicated to the client and internally. 

Work from Client concepts to build into a TAIT project scope. 

Work with Vendors to help coordinate Vendor equipment with TAIT equipment. 

Integrate stock solutions in conjunction with custom solutions to meet client’s budget and vision. 

Develop schematic concepts, studies and layouts to validate solutions. 

Freehand sketching and drafting to communicate ideas and solutions in a collaborative environment. 

Drive, concept, and model full featured designs using 3D AutoCAD for any size project independently. 

Establish design principles for a project and communicate them effectively to the rest of the organization. 

Understanding the underlying physics of complex problems in support of design concepts. 

Learning common TAIT engineering challenges and identifying them during the development phase. 

Develop internal drawings to demonstrate conceptual installation drawings for internal and external use. 

Works closely with the Project Management Team in aligning priorities through the Development and Bidding process. 

Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures. 

Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required. 

Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Technical Theatre, Industrial Design, or Mechanical Design/Engineering background, or demonstrated aptitude through work or personal activities.
  • Flair for translating creatively-led requirements into technically robust practical engineered solutions. (tier II)
  • Proficiency in 3D parametric modelling package(s). 
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering science and practice. (Stress & deflection of structures, power & torque of drivetrains, inertia of machinery and mechanisms, design for global environmental conditions, aerodynamics and fluid mechanics). 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. The employee regularly operates a computer, including typing, using a mouse or keyboard, and viewing the screen for extended periods. While the role does not require regular lifting or physical exertion, there may be occasional onboarding programs or training opportunities that create opportunities for more exposure to physical tasks or new environments (sites, venues, etc.)  

Work conditions of the role are:  

  • Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises 
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions 
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, safety toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the location
