Project Engineer
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Focal point for customer communications with the goal of meeting customer needs, ensuring timely and complete job information; and optimizing order profitability. Provide timely, accurate, comprehensive, and value engineered structural support to insure safe and economical windows and curtainwall systems.
POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Focal point for customer communications.
- Responsible for managing projects thru installation, including mock-ups and testing as required.
- Identify individual customer preferences working with each customer to develop and maintain a mutually beneficial and valued relationship.
- Secure and communicate job information to ensure an effective and focused job through timely information and clarity of scope.
- In conjunction with scheduling, establish, maintain, and communicate project schedules balancing customer needs and our capabilities.
- Monitor key project milestones for schedule completion and scope management.
- Monitor job site status and field issues resulting from Wausau Window and Wall Systems areas of responsibility.
- Effectively manage the project schedule and minimize costs.
- Understand design capabilities as it relates to specification interpretation, die design, and manufacturing and engineering limitation and procedures.
- Accurate and timely use of CTO Pro and CTO Edit (Configure To Order).
- Generate submission drawings and/or production packages that are complete and accurate.
- Perform formal structural calculations for submittal as required by specifications and review jobs for structural adequacy and cost savings.
- Responsible for sizing anchors, fasteners, and reinforcing as required.
- Perform analysis of aluminum frames.
- Determine loadings that affect window systems and apply life safety regulations.
- Assist production with concern and issues relative to manufacturing.
- Manage job scope and financial results in a timely fashion for: potential adds, flow of payment, control of costs, performance to bid, deducts and resolution of back charges.
- Keep management informed of significant problems in the area of customer satisfaction, cost over run, back charges or any other area where significant potential impact on the business, job, or customer relationship is possible and document on required forms.
- Ability to read and understand contract documents (ie. purchase orders, specifications, architectural and structural drawings.)
- Maintain open communications both internal and external to keep projects flowing at optimum success.
- Exercise negotiating skills in dealing with PAR's, back charges, schedule changes, and approvals while adapting to changing conditions throughout the process.
- Compile and submit complete submittal packages including but not limited to: drawings, structural calcs, test reports, product data, LEED information, etc.)
- Understand LEED requirements.
- Negotiate and finalize field back charges with the customer and process "Credit Request Forms" as required.
- Comply with SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) and Standards that are related to the Engineering Department and offer suggestions for improvements, as appropriate.
- Appropriate use of Wausau Window and Wall Systems filing system in filing drawings, correspondence and other documents.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or a minimum of an Associate degree in a design or engineering related field.
- Minimum 5 - 7 years working with Wausau Window and Wall Systems' products or similar building products industry.
- Understanding or experience in AutoCAD.
SKILL and KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Basic knowledge in structural design with an understanding for design of aluminum and steel
- Fundamental understanding of materials such as wood and masonry
- Fundamental understanding of the concepts of statics and structural engineering.
- Read and interpret Architectural and Structural drawings, die drawings, and specifications
- Understand construction, engineering and architectural language
- Familiarity with building codes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented, documentation follow thru
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize or work in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated core values
- Ability to communicate and develop installation requirements and coordinate with other trades

Computer Skills:
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook
- Speed and efficiency in 2D AutoCAD or general data entry skills
- CTO Pro/CTO Edit & Shop View
- MathCAD
- Visual Analysis, Nastran or other FEA program
- Internet & Intranet
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Mostly an office environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor. The noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate.
Available for a moderate amount of travel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
