Job Description

  • Designs and implements business processes to enable product research and development portfolio prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Designs related integrated process and product team activities and directs technical and operational activities to ensure vertical and horizontal integration.
  • Provides product portfolio analyses and reports to management committees for support of decision-making.
  • Leads teams in strategy efforts, lifecycle management planning, and assessments of probability-of-success.
  • Develops systems to support dynamic portfolio management.
  • Serves a key role in portfolio evaluation process. Drives initiatives across functions, research and development units to create fully integrated strategies.
  • Monitors and reports on portfolio status and proactively addresses and resolves issues.

Based on franchise driven portfolio strategy, the Project Lead III is responsible for planning, development, execution, management of the assigned projects to achieve strategic and operational objectives set up by the Portfolio Head and/or Technology Platform Lead of the assigned project.

  • Provides leadership to the project team with clear direction and guidance.
  • Project Lead is expected to be a project driver and have a good understanding of science in the assigned therapeutic area. This project lead will be supporting advanced optic contact lens development projects from early feasibility stage through product launch.
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, communication, negotiation and problem solving skills and operate with a solid sense of urgency.
  • Considerable organizational awareness (e.g. inter-relationship of departments, business priorities), including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global teams.
  • Organizes, coordinates and manages cross-functional project work to ensure high performance execution of key milestones.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for all project information including the preparation of key project /portfolio information and maintaining project documentation. Coordinates with partners to create regular status and communication strategies.
  • The Project Lead III will work with Portfolio Head and Technology Platform Heads, internal/external stakeholders, and play a leadership role in developing and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Support development in interactions with external stakeholders (e.g. regulatory authorities, key opinion leaders, scientific advisory boards, internal stakeholders (e.g. research, development, global clinical and medical affairs, commercial, etc.) and internal governance.
  • Ensure all functions supporting the project team are adequately resourced
  • Timely elevation of issues to Portfolio Head and/or Senior Management.
  • Accountable for development realistic project budget forecasts and timely flagging of budget variations with rationale.
  • Management of medium to large scale strategic projects in compliance with Stage Gate Process.
  • A Project Lead III may be responsible for managing multiple projects depending on complexity and project stage.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
  • Work hours: M-F, standard
  • Travel Requirements: 5-10%
