- The Project Manager in Research and Development (R&D) is responsible for formulating, managing, and implementing the research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities in support of operating or business areas in the Company, such as Facilities and Field Services (FFS). The Project Manager's responsibilities include:
- Define the Company's RD&D needs in these business areas.
- Develop RD&D plans and budgets.
- Initiate and manage RD&D programs to fulfill the plans.
- Coordinate collaborative RD&D programs with governmental, industrial, and academic organizations.
- The purpose of these activities is to provide the Company and its business areas with new learnings, tools, and methodologies to ensure continual improvement in safety, operational excellence, and customer experience in the transition to the clean energy future.
- Provides expertise and support to the Company's Clean Energy Commitment relative to the operations of the assigned areas.
- In consultation with appropriate user organizations, evaluates their RD&D needs and recommends opportunities for the benefit of the Company and its customers.
- Develops RD&D projects and rationale and recommends budget allocations and project priorities to satisfy these needs and opportunities.
- Provides the technical expertise to formulate, implement, and manage major RD&D projects, including guidance and direction to project leaders of RD&D projects that are conducted by other Company departments.
- Approves requests for proposals, technical scopes, contractor selections and payments, final reports, purchase requisitions, and bid evaluations to the delegated authority for RD&D projects.
- Negotiates and recommends approval of RD&D contracts, including collaborative funding arrangements, and manages intellectual property rights.
- Evaluates RD&D program/project results and develops rationale and recommendations for implementation of RD&D results by technology transfer to appropriate users.
- Maintains state-of-the-art technical expertise and cognizance in assigned disciplined areas through contacts and interaction with leading experts in the technical community.
- Represents the Company and articulates its needs as opportunities arrive, on steering committees and task forces established to guide RD&D activities and maximizes RD&D benefits to the Company.
- Represents the Company when interacting with external stakeholders.
- Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or Equivalent and a minimum 10 years of experience of increasing responsibility in Engineering; Electric, Gas, or Steam Operations; Customer Energy Solutions; Environment, Health & Safety; or Facility and Field Services.
- Master's Degree
- Minimum 10 years of experience of increasing responsibility in Engineering; Electric, Gas, or Steam Operations; Customer Energy Solutions; Environment, Health & Safety; or Facility and Field Services. Required
- Work history should include design at project level and experience in projects from conceptual development through execution. Required
- Demonstrated oral, written and presentation skills required. Required
- Excellent project management skills are essential. Required
- Driver's License Required
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within and outside the Company service territory, as needed.
