We are seeking a Project Manager with a track record of successful execution of commercial solar energy projects. The project manager is responsible for the development and execution of a project from the time a project is originated through the transition to asset management for both originated and EPC services contracts. This includes creation and oversight of an execution plan, project budget, project schedules, and the on-time completion of milestones and deliverables. This individual will report to the Senior Project Manager and will interface regularly with internal sales, finance, engineering, safety, construction, and operations team members. The Project Manager is responsible for regular progress reporting to the executive management and the various stakeholders of a project.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact to clients from contract execution through project completion
  • Collaborate closely with Empower’s business development, finance, engineering, procurement, safety, construction, and operations teams to develop project scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Directly manage the project-related development, engineering, construction schedule, budgets, change orders, and course corrections
  • Oversee project permitting and other development processes, including discretionary permitting
  • Actively manage subcontractor scope and performance on contracts
  • Manage billing and invoicing milestones related to clients, subcontractors and vendors and ensure timely submission of information to accounting department for processing
  • Perform pre-contract site walks and partner with engineering throughout design, development, and construction phases of projects
  • Identify construction site issues pre-contract and mitigate risk through diligent partnership with business development, finance, and legal teams
  • Quickly flag and manage unanticipated project cost impacts
  • Initiate daily coordination with operations and construction management team members to ensure adequate internal and external project resources
  • Initiate and lead regularly scheduled project status meetings
  • Proactively manage project records, cashflow, and milestones in real time within the company project database
  • Manage preparation and delivery of final project closing documentation 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, project/construction management OR equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in solar project management of projects in the range of 5MW to 20MW, including roof, parking canopy, and ground mounted systems
  • Strong project budget management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with individual complexities
  • Experience with land/site development, project development, and discretionary regulatory permitting is desired
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to relevant construction safety standards including OSHA requirements for commercial construction
  • High level competency with computer technologies and software applications
  • Ability to pass a full background check, including a clean MVA record with valid drivers’ license
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time to customer sites throughout the United States
  • Ability to regularly perform site walks which may include climbing stairs or ladders, standing or walking for long periods of time, and other physical activity as needed
  • NABCEP certification is a plus
  • PMP certification is a plus

About our Location

Empower’s home office is in the heart of downtown Bethesda, MD located at Bethesda’s Metro center, the office is easily accessible by commuter train and includes onsite parking. The Bethesda Hyatt Regency with great amenities for business travelers is co-located with the office building.
