Job Description

The Project Manager, Archives will oversee day to day operations of Hearst Television's tape archive digitization project. In this role, the project manager will coordinate and remotely lead the work of archivists in several cities as they digitize, catalog and unlock the hidden potential of our stations' vast tape archives.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a strong communicator and project manager who is equally comfortable working with linear engineers, tape archivists, IT staff and content producers.

This role reports to Hearst Television's Director of Digital News Integration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute and improve our project plan to digitize Hearst Television's vast tape library
  • Oversee the tape archive digitization teams at Hearst TV stations
  • Work with station staff and vendors to address issues and needs with tape archive digitization
  • Work with the content teams to surface meaningful and impactful archival material on a regular basis
  • Other duties as required
Experience Requirements:

  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record of hitting deadlines in a complex environment
  • Familiar with the local TV newsroom workflows, equipment and editorial content
  • Past experience with ¾-inch, BETA, DVC and XD Cam tape formats and digitization
  • Strong understanding of AWS workflows around transcription
  • Familiarity with AirTable a plus
Qualifications Requirements:

  • Strong news and editorial judgment
  • Polite and professional when dealing with colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills
Education:

  • Related experience and/or training considered as well as a combination of education and experience.
  • Military experience is a plus
