Job Description

The Opportunity

The heart of insitro’s strategy is the combination of novel, cutting edge methods in machine learning, biology at scale and small molecule discovery that address key bottlenecks in the drug development pipeline.  This strategy requires a seamless, robust, and effective operation that simultaneously spans multiple projects, some partnered and some in-house. Our success relies on working across functions, including external research partners, to ensure that projects have what they need for successful execution.

As a Project Manager, CRO/External Research Lead, you’ll join our Project and Portfolio Management team to help execute these critical responsibilities toward the advancement of insitro’s technology development and therapeutic discovery. You will be the point person for managing our relationships and activities with CROs and other external vendors to ensure we're on track for our project goals. You'll bring an eye for detail in coordinating, tracking, and communicating across disciplines in a complex environment, and will help advance our therapeutic pipeline.  You will assist in the management and coordination of work by chemists, protein scientists and assay development scientists at Contract Research Organizations (CROs).  You will work with the teams both internal and external to build project plans, ensure effective communication of priorities and identify risks and ensure on-time and satisfactory delivery of CRO services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Help build and implement the project management systems and processes needed at the intersection of several state-of-the-art technologies for a company that is working towards a pipeline of multiple early stage therapeutics programs.
  • Contribute to a portfolio that is aligned across stakeholders, properly scoped, and with well-articulated timelines and resource requirements.
  • Work with scientists and technologists to ensure that cross functional project teams develop, prioritize, and execute on goals.
  • Facilitate issue identification and resolution, as well as contingency planning and decision-making.
  • Help to achieve project objectives by effectively managing activities and information.
  • Be accountable for the development of high functioning teams, including helping teams and leaders to communicate effectively across disciplines and mentoring where appropriate.
 About You
  • Advanced scientific degree required  in chemistry, pharmacology or related field with 5+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience in drug discovery and development; Ph.D. preferred but not required
  • Minimum 3 years scientific project management of CROs
  • Knowledge of research and development and of the tasks required for drug discovery and development
  • Proficiency with project management tools including MS Project, Smartsheet or similar software
  • Ability to effectively work in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and options with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong communicator and influencer within all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, accompanied with ability to resolve conflicts
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including quantitative and qualitative assessment skills and demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Motivated, execution oriented, scientifically curious, and collaborative with a passion for making a difference in the world
Nice to Have
  • Experience managing pre-clinical/in vivo projects with CROs
  • Experience with software development or machine learning projects a significant plus
