Global Commercial Services (GCS) accounts for nearly 50% of American Express' card spend and is spread in 26 Markets around the world. GCS continues to be a fast growing business within American Express with the key objectives of accelerating growth, increasing profitability, and enhancing product value propositions to meet client needs. GCS Operational Excellence (OE) serves as GCS 1st line of defense to ensure the business is appropriately assessing, monitoring & responding to potential risks that could occur within existing business operations and during the execution of the GCS Growth Plan

American Express' risk management framework & associated programs are leveraged to assess new or changed products, processes & regulations to ensure an appropriate control environment is established and/or maintained.

Objectives:

Drives processes and execution oversight for Capabilities Engineering team and enables team productivity and agility by demonstrating Agile/Scrum concepts and principles where appropriate.

  • Ensuring an effective and robust framework is in place to enable the business to accept, manage or mitigate materials risks and issues;
  • Actively supporting the business in delivering change, ensuring that governance processes are crisp, efficient and effective;
  • Ensuring that GCS has an effective framework for Process Management that ensures processes are well designed, meet applicable requirements, are supported through robust controls, integrated testing, and appropriate investment in capabilities.
  • Timely & effective resolution of risks and issues, supported by effective preventive framework to identify& eliminate their root causes.
  • Ensuring risks related to 3rd Parties, Partners & Legal Entities are managed in line with regulatory & AXP expectations.
  • Ensuring that GCS Operational Excellence is a trusted partner to the GCS business in supporting them meeting their expectations, and in doing so, operates efficiently leveraging centers of excellence where applicable, but also ensuring strong business focus and presence.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of Regulatory Business Self-Testing databases
  • Drives team/release level processes demonstrating servant leadership coupled with domain knowledge and technical savvy
  • Support stakeholders by ensuring backlog refinement and readiness
  • Ensures dependency alignment across teams
  • Execute the Program Increment (PI) objectives to support the strategy, vision and road map
  • Ensure value is achieved by the team on behalf of end users
  • Works with the stakeholders to develop a prioritize team backlog
  • Collaborates with other Capabilities Managers to coordinate prioritization, dependencies, and other teams within the organization
  • Create metrics driven insights into the delivery and execution of the team using relevant team level metrics
  • Raises impediments, handles risks, dependencies, and resourcing needs
  • Support and encourage innovation through continuous exploration
  • Drive Agile team objectives
  • Provide visibility into gaps, issues, risks, and opportunities across teams
  • Measure user story execution
  • Handles external relations, e.g. product or vendor partners
  • Collaborate with a team of consultants who perform key regulatory functions supporting our sales practices through workflow management, record retention and maintenance of the database that houses all sales evaluations
  • Steward of sales practice data and documentation to support reporting, investigations, regulatory reviews, & audits of sales practices
  • Responsible for tracking iteration progress, actively adding to design discussions, issue resolution, and removing obstacles to ensure sprint/iteration commitments are met

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of Scrum Master experience
  • 5+ years relevant Program and/or Project Management experience
  • 2+ years of experience facilitating Agile, Scrum, or other rapid application development teams to deliver solutions
  • 1+ years of experience agile management tools- Rally & Jira
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or information technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification
  • 2+ years' experience in presentation & documentation tools like Microsoft PowerPoint & Excel
  • 2+ years' experience with design and coding across one or more platforms and languages
  • Master's degree in computer science or information technology
  • In depth knowledge on SAFe and agile methodology
  • Scrum Master Certification
  • Architectural concepts and solutioning mindset
  • Passionate and self-driven attitude to deliver value
  • Collaborative and servant leadership skills

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
