SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Project Manager is responsible for accomplishing project objectives by planning and evaluating project activities. The role requires regular analytical and metrics-based reporting to other staff, board members, and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Build strong relationships within Amtrak to understand the business challenges and opportunities.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Report and escalate to management as needed
  • Successfully manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Identify and evaluate project risks and take appropriate action to control the risks
  • Support the creation of project management best practices, tools, and ways for Amtrak to drive efficiency in order to reduce costs and add value.
  • Adheres to Amtrak Enterprise Project Management methodology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong focus on collaboration, team building, and customer service
  • Effectiveness working diplomatically across teams with varying objectives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills across all levels
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project),
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • PMP (Must be willing to obtain within 12 months of date of hire)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience preferred

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $80,580 - $104,430. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.

In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.

Note that any education requirement listed above may be deemed satisfied if you have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
