Your Opportunity
The Project Services Manager is responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring members of the Project Services Team. Project services includes project cost, schedule, and document controls. On a day-to-day basis, the Project Services Manager works in conjunction with Senior Staff, Supervisors and Project Managers to identify and assign appropriate resources to support project needs.
Your Key Responsibilities
Management and Leadership
- Understands the business purpose of Project Services in context of project delivery including the roles and responsibilities of the cost, schedule and document controls teams.
- Ensures routine Project Services tasks are evenly distributed / delegated and suitable for each individual's unique skillsets.
- Identifies needs and initiates requests for new hires or additional staff.
- Collaborates with Project Managers, Functional Managers, and Leadership to develop, implement and improve cost control, schedule control and document control procedures, while ensuring procedures conform to company standards.
- Provides appropriate recognition and opportunity based on attitude, competence, accomplishment, and contribution to the department.
- Advocates and demonstrates appropriate professional behavior.
- Develops, mentors, and trains a highly motivated department staff by providing opportunities for advancement and identifying training needs.
- Develops and maintains a succession plan for key staff within the department.
- Conducts yearly performance review and goal-setting sessions with each member of the department and provides support and follow-up.
Cost Controls
- Coordinates the definition of the project WBS/task structure with Project Managers, as needed.
- Supports the definition of the project budgets.
- Supports the tracking of potential and approved project changes.
- Manages a team of project controller who support accurate and timely project reporting.
- Collaborates with business development team to create proposals and provide input regarding project services proposal budgets.
Schedule Controls
- Supports the planning, monitoring, and updating of project schedules.
- Manages a team of schedulers who define and update project baselines.
- Familiar with a variety of scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera)
Document Controls
- Supports the control of project documents.
- Knowledge of Electronic Document Management Systems (e.g., Aconex, OpenText, ProjectWise) a plus.
- Manages a team of Document Controllers and Technical Editors who support project deliverables
- Understands Stantec project deliverable standards.
General
- Completes quality assurance / quality control checks of project team members' work.
- Reviews and approves department timecards for accuracy and time effectiveness.
- Provides regular communication within the department.
- Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment and possess flexibility when juggling numerous projects in a rapidly changing environment.
- Must grasp instructions and information rapidly and apply them with limited supervision.
- Must exercise judgement and discretion when working with confidential information and store information securely.
- Must be able to create and work well in a team environment.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum of five years of experience in a related role.
- Experience managing a diverse team of specialists.
- Has a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communication, business, or related field.
