IT Project Specialist

The Project Specialist utilizes several skills to deliver technology projects of all sizes for Applied Tech's customers. It is expected of a Project Specialist to work autonomously on defined scopes of work in an efficient method that meets project timelines and budgets as well as assisting Senior Project Specialists with various workloads and projects as needed.

Organization and communication are key skills for success in this position. Project Specialists will be expected to organize incoming work requests and updates, track progress against agreed upon schedules and budget, and communicate with clients on progress as well as out-of-scope change requests. The nature of project work can present high-pressure situations and conflicts and the ability to communicate with clients in a clear and professional manner is a must. Every project is custom and because of this, a strong aptitude and level of comfort in unfamiliar circumstances is paramount to being successful in this position.

The work assigned may include basic server refreshes, line of business application migrations, switch/Wi-Fi deployments, Exchange migrations, enterprise storage, virtualization, high availability clustering and a variety of Azure and Office 365 implementations.

Our Project Services team supports clients Monday through Friday from 8am - 5pm CDST, and IT Project Specialists should maintain availability during those times. The nature of project work will require some level of afterhours for work and is expected of the position. Typical work weeks do not exceed 40 hours.

Primary responsibilities for the position include the following:

This position is metric-driven and key performance indicators include project technician utilization, project success rate and project gross margin.

  • Plan and execute projects to scope and budget.
  • Assist project manager/coordinator in managing client and stakeholder communication, scheduling, budget, risks, issues and status updates.
  • Log all time and work completed in department toolsets to ensure visibility and accuracy of work performed and time worked (at least 34 hours Billable time entered weekly).
  • Attain monthly and quarterly productivity goals set forth by Service Manager.
  • Assist with scope development as a technical consultant during pre-sales stages of the Applied Tech sales process.
  • Thoroughly document all changes to customer environments and any related procedures
  • Ability to provide onsite installation and support

Because of the breadth of technologies Applied Tech supports, IT Project Specialists are expected to have proficiency in the majority of the following technologies:

  • Microsoft Exchange (On-Premise and Online)
  • Domain Controllers (dcpromo) and Site/Services Configuration
  • Hypervisor technology (Hyper-V and VMware)
  • Enterprise Storage
  • High Availability Clustering
  • Advanced understanding of networking including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP
  • Firewall and network switch configuration and support
  • Advanced routing and switching techniques
  • Cloud-based technologies including Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Azure
  • 3 years MSP helpdesk support
  • 3 years Windows Server Administration
  • 3 years Network/Firewall Management
  • 2 years Azure AD & Office 365 experience
  • Firewall and Microsoft certifications are a plus, but not required
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance

Compensation

Salary $65,000-$90,000 per year DOE

Requirements

Most of the support we provide is remote, and you'll be asked to interact with computers daily for extended periods of time. This could be standing or sitting but could be up to 8 hours a day or more. There are situations where you may also need to travel to a client site to continue troubleshooting or during hardware deployments, so the ability to travel legally and safely is a must. We also work with physical hardware including workstations, printers, servers, and more; you will need the ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
