Role Overview

Boom Supersonic is seeking a Propulsion Inlet Engineer.  The successful candidate will be the engine inlet focal within the Propulsion Integrated PowerPlant System (IPPS) team.  In this role you will work with related disciplines including Propulsion, Aerodynamics, Structures, Configuration Design, Engineering Integration and others to develop the engine inlet designs.

Responsibilities
  • Inlet engineer will lead the Propulsion Airframe Integration (PAI) activities for the IPPS team
  • Lead technical execution in the development of a supersonic engine inlet design using multiple methods, including computational fluid, structural, and thermal dynamics modeling and simulation
  • Collaborate with supplier to identify and develop inlet auxiliary door mechanism
  • Verify design approach by working closely with Aerodynamics, Propulsion and Structures Engineering leveraging engineering data to assess engine and airplane level impacts
  • Provide innovative solutions to a variety of technical challenges of increasing scope and complexity related to engine inlet design
  • Support the planning and development of inlet wind tunnel test test articles
  • Participate in wind tunnel testing, data collection, data reduction and creation of test reports
Qualifications
  • A relevant bachelor’s or master's degree (e.g. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Computer Science)
  • 15+ years experience in systems engineering
  • Experience in developing supersonic inlets
  • Experience working with multi-disciplined stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, product management, program management, senior leadership, certification manager).
  • Excellent problem solving leadership skills; capable of solving hard, complex, ambiguous technical problems and capable of helping others do the same
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate independently with limited supervision
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to interface and communicate effectively with different groups and levels of leadership internally and externally 
  • Superb organizational skills and acute attention to detail
Highly Desirable
  • Experience in Inlet wind tunnel testing
  • Experience with FAA Part 33 and/or Part 25 certification
  • Experience working on aircraft development program(s) from concept development through certification
Compensation 

The Base Salary Range for this position is $153,000 - $207,000. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
