Role Overview

Boom is seeking an Integrated PowerPlant System (IPPS) Staff Scientist to lead the design, analysis, modeling, simulation, integration, and testing of Overture’s supersonic propulsion systems.  A successful candidate will be a motivated, talented engineer with significant experience in propulsion design, manufacturing and certification for commercial aircraft.  In this role you will guide development of leading-edge propulsion technology.  

Responsibilities
  • Lead all phases of development for the Inlet, Engine, Exhaust and Nacelle from requirements development through successful design, qualification, flight test, and production
  • Provide guidance on engine cycle development and engine performance
  • Lead trade studies internally and with suppliers to evaluate IPPS solutions for Overture aircraft 
  • Provide expert level guidance on definition, coordination and control of the functional and physical interfaces between the IPPS and the aircraft
  • Work under minimal supervision and regularly lead others with technical expertise
Qualifications
  • A relevant bachelor’s or master's degree (e.g. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering)
  • 15+ years of Propulsion experience with ability to perform engine performance calculations and analysis for trade studies
  • Experience working with multi-disciplined stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, program management, certification and senior leadership)
  • Excellent problem solving leadership skills; capable of solving hard, complex, ambiguous technical problems and capable of helping others do the same
  • Persuasive—must be able to win support of internal and external parties alike
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to interface and communicate effectively with different groups and levels of leadership internally and externally 
  • Superb organizational skills and acute attention to detail
Highly Desirable
  • Experience with FAA Part 33 and Part 25 certification 
  • Experience with supersonic inlet, engine and/or nozzle development
  • Knowledge of aero acoustics and noise reducing technologies
  • Knowledge of high-speed aerodynamics
Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $187,000 - $253,000. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.

To conform to U.S. Government aerospace technology export regulations (ITAR and EAR), applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
