Description

The Public Affairs Manager is a role on the Corporate Communications team with responsibilities in reputation management, crisis communication, and public affairs, including corporate responsibility. This role will manage the reputation focus for the media relations team, actively developing and supporting strategies regarding reactive media activities.

In addition, the manager is responsible for overseeing the team's communication about and reporting on Tyler's corporate responsibility and environment, social, and governance (ESG) activities and objectives, with the goal of increasing Tyler's positive impact on key stakeholders. Ultimately, through improved corporate responsibility initiatives, the company expects to improve its reputation with all stakeholders with greater focus on financial and security governance, environmental and social responsibility.

In addition, the manager will work with Corporate Communications and Corporate Marketing in developing and promoting key messages to represent the company's brand and initiatives. Responsibilities will also encompass investor and client communications as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Direct reputation management professionals in issue response, strategy, and mitigation.
  • Serve as an expert partner to Tyler executives and department, implementing and improving reactive media relations strategies.
  • Develop, review, and or support messaging across multiple corporate initiatives.
  • Support crisis preparation strategies and development by participating in planning and delivering materials to support security initiatives and crisis communications.
  • Oversee external channels for areas of responsibility, such as web pages regarding ESG, crisis comms, etc.
  • Manage activities related to corporate responsibility content, including the annual CR report and copy for the proxy statement, responses to RFPs, and content for Tyler's website, internal communications.
  • Engage with Corporate Communications and Corporate Marketing in ensuring a positive perception of Tyler with other stakeholders, such as media, analysts, and industry organizations.

  • Ensure appropriate tracking, measurement, and analysis of performance against goals, and adjust where necessary as tools and trends evolve.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Corporate Communications team, performing various communication tasks as assigned.
The public affairs manager must be able to:

  • Apply sound judgment and media experience to reactive media situations.
  • Engage in the development and execution of government relations strategies that support Tyler's public policy objectives.
  • Evaluate the best interest of the company and its business units and develop new strategies and materials as required to meet corporate priorities.
  • Manage competing priorities in order to deliver programs that align with corporate objectives.
  • Understand and convey corporate messages and objectives in all supporting materials.
  • Understand client perspectives and be able to consider in recommending messaging and activities.
  • Effectively work with subject matter experts across various departments. Research, organize and express information in a well-written format.
  • Establish priorities and meet deadlines, in conjunction with those set forth by the corporate communications director and company executives.
  • Handle multiple tasks while paying close attention to details.
  • Stay abreast of industry and public affairs best practices, trends, ideas, tools and technology.
  • Effectively lead others to accomplish goals/objectives and coach, mentor and develop team members.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or comparable work experience
  • 10-12 years media or corporate communications experience in a business-to-business or business-to-government environment
  • Prior experience working with corporate responsibility and ESG reporting frameworks is preferred.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to generate impactful messages is required, demonstrated through writing samples and references.
  • Technology/software industry experience required; public sector experience preferred.
  • Experience effectively managing a variety of projects and timelines.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and deliver under pressure.
