BAIN CAPITAL PUBLIC EQUITY OVERVIEW
Bain Capital Public Equity, founded as Brookside Capital in 1996, manages a long/short equity fund and a long only equity fund. ASSOCIATE ROLE
The individual will join Bain Capital as an Associate within the Public Equity team focused on global research coverage and investment recommendations in the technology sector. The Associate will diligence new investment opportunities and monitor portfolio investments with the expectation of eventually developing the ability to generate new investment ideas. He/she will travel to visit companies, attend conferences and perform due diligence. The successful candidate will be effective at conceiving and executing in-depth industry, competitive, and financial analyses in order to identify compelling long-term investment opportunities. He/she will be a fundamental, bottom-up analyst who can effectively develop a differential perspective on industries and companies. The individual will be based in Boston and report to a Boston-based Managing Director and Technology Sector Head, and will also be expected to work closely with other Public Equity and Bain Capital investment professionals to share expertise across sectors and geographies.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Conceive and execute in-depth industry, competitive, and financial analyses in order to formulate and test differential investment hypotheses
- Perform fundamental company and industry research: visit company management, conduct field research (with customers, suppliers, and others likely to have unique insight into a company's or industry's fundamentals), and attend industry/Wall Street conferences
- Make proactive buy/sell recommendations and communicate investment views with appropriate team members
- Identify and evaluate attractive investment ideas, primarily in the public markets, but also select private market investments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong academic credentials and a demonstrated track record of professional high performance
- 1-4 years of experience in roles including, but not limited to: investment banking, sell-side research, public or private investing, management consulting
- Passion for problem solving, analysis, and equity investing
- Experience with financial modeling and data analysis
- Excellent communication skills; able to synthesize complicated analyses concisely and articulate conclusions
- Open to spirited debate over ideas
- Experience interacting with and assessing senior management teams; demonstrated relationship-building and networking skills
