Public Relations Specialist

Job Description

Responsible for positioning Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) favorably in the community by fostering positive media relationships and securing coverage opportunities to support positive brand reputation and promote organizational initiatives.

• Conduct media outreach and manage relationships with media outlets to secure positive media coverage for BCBSM throughout the state of Michigan.
• Research and prepare content and talking points for guest speakers to participate in media interviews.
• Facilitate onsite, in-studio, phone or at event media interviews to ensure reporters stay on track and guest speakers stick to key messages.
• Manage relationships with internal business partners to ensure communication needs are met with proper public relations tactics.
• Develop public relations communications plans to align business objectives, timelines, media opportunities etc.
• Coordinate with external vendors to ensure on time and quality delivery for assigned project requirements.
• Create formal presentations and present to leadership on communication plans, project updates, etc.

"Qualifications"

• Bachelor's degree in communications or related field is required.
• Three (3) years of experience in public or media relations is required.
• Previous experience securing media coverage, producing media relations support materials and preparing guest speakers is required.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with various media outlets.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Ability to multi-task, problem solve, plan and organize multiple priorities.
• Effective verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to travel locally to coordinate interviews.
