About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Public Safety Telecommunicator for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responders, monitoring alarms and activating Mass Notification Systems in Army Garrison Public Safety Answering Points/911 Centers at Fort Cavazos, TX.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment.
  • Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
  • Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
  • Incumbent must be a qualified typist. (40 wpm).
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-employment and periodic health analysis by a licensed physician.
  • Incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
  • Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
  • Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
  • Continuous current certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service which includes: 1) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls for police, fire, or ambulance assistance; 2) Dispatching emergency personnel; AND 3) Operating communications software to prepare log calls, activity reports, and provide medical dispatching until emergency units arrive. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
