Job Description

The Shift Supervisor-Pulp Mill is responsible for oversight of the Pulping operation and rotating shift supervision of the Pulp Mill department operations’ crews.

Accountabilities

• Responsible for the safety leadership and compliance for employees on shift and support for the department & mill; Make daily safety contact with each individual on his/hers shift;

• Responsible for the environmental compliance of the department on an hour-by-hour basis; Must understand and comply with mill chemical safety precautions and know the hazards of each chemical utilized in the pulp mill;

• Manage operations to provide internal customers with all bleached pulp requirements in a safe, environmentally compliant and most cost-effective manner;

• Provide direct supervision of approximately 12-15 hourly employees assigned to the rotating shift;

• Track & monitor attendance for hourly employees to insure adequate coverage of the operation; • Initiate and enforce all systems, policies and procedures;

• Maintain a working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement;

• Train, counsel, and provide disciplinary action, as necessary, within provisions of formal agreements between management and employee bargaining groups;

• Participate in production, safety, and other appropriate meetings;

• Hold self, team members, and all in the facility accountable for their duties, behaviors, and actions;

• Coordinate operations and maintenance activities, as well as daily communication with other shift supervisors and managers throughout the facility;

• Equipment responsibilities include supervising the operations of the following units: Woodyard, Digesters, Chemi-washer/Brown Stock, R8 Generator, Bleach Plant, Kiln, Recaust, and Incinerator

Qualifications

• One to three (1-3) years’ experience in a pulp mill, paper mill, or comparable industry; Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; OR equivalent operational experience is required;
•  Strong computer skills; 
• Must exhibit strong people skills being able to handle confrontational situations;
• Must demonstrate problem identification and solution implementation;
• Must demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and organize a group of people to accomplish those tasks; 
• Must have integrity, be self-motivated and driven.
