Quality Assurance Engineer III

Costar Technologies, Inc., headquartered in Coppell, TX, designs, develops, manufactures, and distributes a full range of products for the video surveillance and machine vision markets. Costar Technologies, Inc. consists of five operating companies: AV Costar, CostarHD, Costar Video Systems, IVS Imaging, and Innotech Security.

Summary: The QA engineer III is responsible for the creation of tests to identify issues with products before the launch. Duties include (but are not limited to) identifying and analyzing any bugs and errors found during the test phase and documenting them for review after. Other tasks include developing and running new tests, reporting on the results, and collaborating with developers to fix program issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Test current products and identify deficiencies
• Suggest solutions to identified product problems 
• Investigate product quality in order to make improvements to achieve better customer satisfaction
• Plan, create, and manage the overall Quality Planning strategy
• Collaborate with the Product Development team to ensure consistent project execution
• Identify quality assurance process bottleneck and suggest actions for improvement 
• Oversee continuous improvement projects 
• Collect quality data 
• Identify key KPIs for product quality
• Prepare and present reports and metrics to Senior Management

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• At least 4-5 years of experience
• Experience in both Agile and waterfall environments
• Experience in developing test plan, assessing risk, filing appropriate defects
• Experience in creation of tests (regression tests, functional tests, performance tests, stress tests)
• Experience participating in the review of requirements to develop test strategy, deploy risk-based testing tactics, writing test plans and test cases
• Experience executing test cases to detect and report defects
• Experience effectively communicating quality related matters across an organization and project teams.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft Office, SQL, and/or scripting

Certificates and Licenses:

ASQ certification a plus
