Fluidra’s looking for a Quality Engineer to join our team at our North American Headquarters in Carlsbad, CA.

 

WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE 

The Quality Engineer works in close cooperation with different teams across the business to assure overall Quality of products and components sold by Fluidra. The QE is heavily involved in New Product Development, Customer Service, Manufacturing and Supplier Quality. The QE must have the ability to negotiate and influence project quality targets, conduct risk mitigation, lead failure analysis activities, drive/facilitate problem solving activities, implement process controls, and develop quality assurance plans. The QE also uses a fact-based approach in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

This position requires proficient verbal and written communication including high level quality skills that would enable the ideal candidate to influence major Quality decisions in the project. The QE is an important member and contributor to the cross functional teams: Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Customer/Field Service, Product Marketing and Supply Chain. Additionally, you will: 

  • Drive Quality initiatives at assigned Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers thereby improving the Quality performance through Effective Problem Solving and proper use of other Fluidra and industry standard Quality tools and concepts.
  • Develop and maintain effective, positive relationships with the cross functional teams to manage and implement change notifications (ECR’s, ECO’s, Deviations, etc. Also provides relevant input to Supplier score cards and Product Transfer Activities.
  • Lead the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and negotiate the DVT (Design Validation Testing) plan.
  • Manage the FAI (First Article Inspections) requirements based on the requirements of the PPAP.
  • Conduct Process and Systems Audits at select Suppliers ensuring compliance, good manufacturing processes and creating / managing the gap action plans.
  • Perform Source Inspections of critical components to the print / standards. Possess the ability to articulate and determine adequate AQL sample size for a given issue.
  • Provide advanced Quality Engineering support during New Process Introduction using APQP methodology or similar NPI/NPD models.
  • Perform functional level testing / troubleshooting of assigned products in the Quality Lab and drive actions to improve product deficiencies with the Manufacturing and/or Engineering teams.
  • Provide Quality metrics and input to the project DVT (Design Validation Testing) plans. Determine which tests are required based on the risk, min test quantity etc. Set and maintain agreed pass/fail criteria with Engineering.
  • Lead DFM (Design for Manufacturing) activities within the project and drive an effective action plan.
  • Provide direct input to the continuous improvement efforts of the NPD process. Develop and implement the necessary tools to communicate and resolve issues clearly and effectively.
  • Manage and communicate the Quality status, activities, improvement / corrective action plans effectively to a cross-functional team, as necessary.

 

WHAT WE SEEK

  • 5 years’ experience working in a Manufacturing, Quality, or Sourcing environment.
  • Experience with Quality Plans and PPAP processes. Practical use of basic Quality and Manufacturing tools (Control Plan, PFMEA, PFC, W.I).
  • Knowledge and effective use of Effective Problem-Solving Tools (AIAG CQI-20) Lead and/or drive activities in resolving and future prevention of issues.
  • Experience in process audits or participation in auditing Quality Plans and Quality Management Systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process controls, with emphasis on manual/semi-automated product testing.
  • Basic understanding of functionality of at least 3 of the following products or technologies commonly used in the pool industry.
    • Gas Heaters
    • Hydraulics
    • Plastic Injection Molding
    • SMT Process and Product Assembly
    • Salt Chlorine Generators / Water Sanitizers
    • Lighting / LED Technology
    • Metal Stamping / Welding / Painting
    • Digital Controls and Automation
    • Filters and Valves
    • Motors
  • Read, write, and communicate fluently and clearly in English
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the different safety agencies i.e. UL, CSA, CE.
  • Proficient in office tools Microsoft office and Google tools, word, excel, ppt, Google Docs, etc.
  • Knowledge of Quality analysis tools and terminology (Minitab, capability index, spc, dpmo, ppm, MFR, etc)
  • ASQ member or Certified Quality Engineer is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Salesforce is also preferred but not required.

EDUCATION

BS degree in Engineering or similar Technical Degree 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk around; frequent use of hands to manage or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Lifting of equipment under test and associated support equipment will also be required. Typically, < 25lbs.
  • Local USA and some international travels are required for this position (approximately 25%).

Expected salary range is $100,000 -115,000. Fluidra offers a comprehensive total rewards / benefits program that includes base salary, annual bonus based on performance of individual and company objectives, competitive 401K matching, paid vacation and sick time, full range of health benefits, educational assistance, etc. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience and location.
