Quality Engineer
Job Description
Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.Â
Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.
The Quality Engineer plays a critical, flexible role in supporting the lifecycle of products from the supply chain to the customer. Other departments and stakeholders benefit from the problem-solving, process controls, compliance familiarity, and analysis expertise of the Quality Engineer. This is an opportunity to fundamentally move the needle on product quality. Later, you will watch launches of space, hypersonics, and defense propulsion systems and know that you played a crucial role in that success.
Ursa Major is looking for an on-site, hands-on Quality Engineer who can evaluate and enact improvements on multiple programs from supplier generation to customer delivery, though the role will primarily focus on internal processes. You will coordinate with key stakeholders to identify gaps and solve problems across many cutting-edge, fascinating processes and products. You will work closely with Manufacturing Engineers and Responsible Engineers to build and maintain stable and repeatable processes from early development to full production. You will own and coordinate the resolution of specific nonconformances encountered during the product lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Define, develop, and maintain quality processes at various product maturities.
- Lead the Material Review Board for assigned areas and drive rapid disposition and practical corrective actions by the responsible personnel.
- Analyze nonconformance data for patterns and recommended actions.
- Lead, coordinate, and review problem-solving efforts.
- Run improvement projects as directed and based on observed gaps.
- Ensure quality documentation meets the needs of internal and external customers.
- Uphold and share Ursa’s values of cohesion, conviction, and humility.
Other Responsibilities:
- Review and apply customer, industry, and supplier standards and certifications.
- Perform inspection and author Discrepancy Reports (DR) as needed.
- Complete internal company audits or aid in performing routine audits of the QMS as directed.
- Report assigned quality metrics that influence organizational performance.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Quality Management.
Experience Requirements:
- Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (4+ years).
- Experience applying or reviewing GD&T and drawing note requirements. Basic familiarity with GD&T is insufficient to meet the responsibilities of this role.
- Familiarity with various types of metrology equipment used in performing inspections – their capabilities and limitations.
- Familiarity with project management tools and processes.
- Familiarity with engineering models and drawings (basic CAD knowledge).
- This position requires that the employee be eligible and maintain eligibility for a Secret Clearance.Â
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters in a related Engineering or Technical field.
- Basic understanding of certification and control methods for special processes.
- Experience in the Aerospace or Defense industries.
- Experience in a moderate volume and mixed manufacturing environment.
- Experience with metrology standards, MSA, correlation studies, and GR&R.
- Experience with AS9100, ISO9001, ISO17025, ISO 13485, or similar.
- Experience deploying quality process tools, like SPC, PPAP, APQP.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer.
- Familiarity with assembly tools and basic components (nuts, bolts, fasteners, elbows, etc.).
Benefits Include:
- Unlimited PTO - Vacation, Sick, Personal, and Bereavement
- Paid maternity/paternity/adoptive leave
- Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance; Tax Advantage Accounts (HSA/FSA); Employer Paid Short and Long Term Disability, Basic Life, AD&D and EAP Program; Additional Benefit Options Including Voluntary Life, Emergency Medical Transport and Pet Insurance
- Retirement Savings Plan - Traditional 401(k) and a Roth 401(k)
- Company stock options
