Snap is looking for a Quality Engineer to join our team! As a QE team member, you will own testing of the Camera, Creative Tools, Messaging, Notifications, Sharing, User Profile, and more. You will be the domain expert of our client platform, and will play an integral role in defining test strategies and plans, developing test automation, technically investigating and reporting product defects, and collaborating across the Engineering organization to release high quality software with the goal of delighting our users. Your work will improve the functionality and performance of Snapchat. You are experienced applying engineering best practices and agile testing approaches during the software development lifecycle. An excellent candidate will have a strong attention to detail, is intellectually curious, takes ownership over the definition and delivery of high quality work, demonstrates a strong sense of collaboration in their professional relationships, clearly and thoughtfully communicates in their areas of expertise, identifies problems and proposes solutions, and empathizes with and advocates for the needs of Snapchat's users.
What you'll do:
  • Drive quality engineering efforts for internal and external product releases
  • Develop test strategies for existing and new, unreleased features
  • Define/implement/maintain test automation for the client platform that drives improvements in Snapchat's usability, performance, hardware compatibility, and software interoperability
  • Diagnose, debug, and perform root cause analysis for defects/incidents, document your findings, collaborate cross-functionally to triage, and champion resolution of your bugs
  • Collaborate with Product Design, Program Management, Feature Developers, and other Quality Engineering team members to define requirements, ensure testability, and deliver high-quality features
  • Participate in the release process for Snapchat
  • Propose regression tests to discover recurring issues and drive the tests to "automation complete"
  • Collaborate with partner teams to understand dependencies and to facilitate development of integration and end-to-end tests
  • Propose and implement quality methodologies to the team to ensure product quality and team efficiency

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Proficiency with object-oriented programming in Java, Typescript/Javascript, React.js, Objective-C, Swift, Kotlin, Python, or similar, with a strong focus on web automation.
  • Experience with client and/or mobile test automation frameworks (E.g. Selenium WebDriverIO, Cypress, Appium, Espresso/EarlGrey, Carina, etc.)
  • Highly experienced in defining/executing/maintaining test coverage for client/mobile applications for a variety of smartphones/tablets
  • Proficient with version control (E.g. GitHub) and issue/project tracking software (E.g. Jira)
  • Proficient with software development/debugging tools (E.g. Chrome Dev Tools, Postman, Charles Proxy, curl, etc.)
  • Experience with TestRail or similar test suite/case management tools
  • Some experience with Jenkins or similar build tools and Mocka build framework.
  • Deep understanding of quality-related agile methodologies and experience applying them throughout the SDLC
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (E.g. Whiteboarding/diagramming system behavior)
  • Proven experience demonstrating analytical thinking, reporting, leadership, customer focus, and collaboration

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science, adjacent fields, or equivalent years of experience
  • 7+ years hand-on industry experience in a software testing and/or software development occupation, including manual/automated testing of client/mobile applications and/or backend services

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a distributed product-team environment
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and continuous integration/delivery systems
  • Some experience developing web and/or mobile applications
  • Experience with Gatling, JMeter, Locust, or similar performance/reliability testing tools
  • Experience using profiling tools and instrumentation to detect resource bottlenecks and memory leaks

Compensation
In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These pay zones may be modified in the future.
  • Zone A (CA, WA, NYC) : The base salary range for this position is $175,000 - 250,000 annually
  • Zone B : The base salary range for this position is $166,000 - 238,000 annually
  • Zone C : The base salary range for this position is $149,000 - $213,000 annually
  • This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs
