Job Description

Western Digital is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Quality Engineer to support and enhance our quality systems across the product lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.

You will partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams to drive continuous improvement, strengthen quality processes, and support compliance with global standards.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Planning & Systems

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance plans, inspection procedures, and documentation

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001 and internal quality frameworks

  • Support the continuous evolution of quality management systems

Auditing & Compliance

  • Conduct internal audits to assess process adherence and identify improvement opportunities

  • Support external audits, including supplier and customer audits

  • Drive corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings

Quality Reporting & Analytics

  • Define, track, and analyze key quality performance indicators (KPIs)

  • Prepare and present reports to management with actionable insights

  • Leverage data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams

  • Ensure quality is embedded throughout the entire product lifecycle—from design through production and delivery

  • Act as a key interface between technical and business stakeholders

Process Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor production processes and identify defects or deviations

  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field

Experience

  • Proven experience in quality assurance or quality engineering, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including:

    • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)

    • Six Sigma / Lean methodologies

    • SPC (Statistical Process Control)

    • 8D problem-solving process

  • Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • High attention to detail and process discipline

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, global teams

Languages

  • Business fluency in German and English (written and spoken)
