Job Description:
Description: The Rad Technologist provides information used to diagnose patients by operating radiologic equipment to produce patient images. The daily tasks of this position require precise work and attention to detail as well as adherence to strict safety procedures. The Rad Technologist is responsible for assisting physicians in the areas of Radiology, Ortho, and Oncology.
Typical Duties:
- Performs a variety of tasks involved in operating equipment to produce radiographs per protocol and physician orders. Adjusts equipment for proper radiographic exposure techniques in accordance with radiation safety guidelines.
- Positions patients for each anatomical view using immobilization and protective equipment as appropriate. Effectively explains procedure to patients so that they have complete understanding of the radiographic procedure and documents accurately in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Transports patients within the guidelines defined by JPS Radiology Department and Acclaim Physician Group.
- Monitors accessory equipment and assists physicians with fluoroscopic procedures. Must be able to closely follow physician instruction to obtain optimal images for diagnosis. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique, emergency medications and equipment.
- 5. Accurately process images and critiques for optimal quality, positioning, and technical factors. Matches with appropriate documentation for interpretation.
- Understands and uses Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other software related to job responsibilities.
- Provides a safe and clean environment; ensuring operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Reporting equipment problems to Biomed and Manager.
- Provides education and training to affiliated radiology technology programs. Provides orientation and training to new technologists.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required Education and Experience:
- Associates degree or equivalent from AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology Science.
- 5 or more years of experience as radiographic technologist and demonstrated competency in at least three of the following areas: Trauma, Fluoroscopy, Correctional Health, Orthopedics, Bone Density, Surgical or Pain Management C-arm use, and Imaging Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
- Surgery experience is preferred
- Fluoroscopy experience is preferred
- Trauma experience preferred
- 1 plus year of experience using EMR / PACS
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification.
- Licensed by Texas Medical Board as Medical Radiographer.
- Current JPS recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Complies with federal, state, and professional requirements
