Radar Remote Sensing Modeling & Coordination Engineer

The National Systems Group serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch.
The GEOINT Innovations Office's Futures Architecture Department serves as a lead technical advisor to the NRO's Office of the GEOINT Chief Architect. We are looking for a Radar Remote Sensing Modeling & Coordination Engineer to lead efforts that will have an impact on the design and acquisition of next generation GEOINT space architecture in this highly influential office. In this essential role, you will provide objective technical feedback to key architecture and enterprise level decisions in the NRO GEOINT Directorate and beyond!
This position requires 100% on site work in Chantilly, VA., and can be filled as a Project Engineer or Sr. Project Engineer.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and coordinate domain experts from Aerospace's Engineering Matrix organization to perform orbit design trades for remote sensing radar constellations in the evaluation of future GEOINT architectures for performance, user requirements satisfaction, and mission utility
- Work independently and organize technical support to conduct constellation and architecture level trades to include constellation sizing, orbit design, and configuration with a focus on remote sensing radar payloads and systems
- Respond to urgent technical questions originating from multiple agencies (NRO, NGA, DoD, ODNI), NRO Leadership, and Congressional direction
- Communicate across Aerospace, SETA, and Government teams
- Present results to senior level program office management
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members in the Engineering Matrix organization
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for the Project Engineer role:
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or related technical field
- 8 years of progressively more responsible experience
- Technical experience in architecture modeling, orbital mechanics, and space systems
- Familiarity with remote sensing radar or RF mission payloads
- This position requires an active Top Secret security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
In addition to the above, the following are the minimum requirements for the Senior Project Engineer role
- 12 years of progressively more responsible experience
- Experience in remote sensing radar or RF mission payloads
- Strong understanding Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary technical teams and integrate their results into decision-driving products
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- An advanced degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or related technical field
- Strong understanding of GEOINT architectures, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Moving Target Indication
- Knowledge of relevant Aerospace resources or experience working with an engineering reach back organization.
- Experience in planning or conducting architectural and optimization trade-studies
- Experience developing visualizations using modeling and simulation software to depict constellations and architectures
- Program Office experience working directly with contractors, SETA, and government customers
- Experience working within the intelligence community and advising senior officials
- Proven capability to address and solve complex challenges
- Strong organization and communication skills
- This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance and polygraph which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
