Job Description

The R&D Scientist will play a key role in the early stages product development and will be responsible for supporting concept development. Key responsibilities include participating in research to identify unmet needs, researching creative solutions and supporting the development of new product concepts. The R&D Scientist will also support product development through participation in cross-functional project teams during all phases of the product development cycle as needed.Β 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and conduct product design and development activities for novel new biomaterial products and manufacturing processes
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions and provide technical expertise to solve complex challenges
  • Act as a technical expert for in vitro and in vivo testing protocols for biomaterials evaluation of biocompatibility and efficacy
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional project teams within field of expertise
  • Plan and manage outside studies with CRO's
  • Review and critically assess patents and other forms of intellectual property
  • Actively develop intellectual property through the filing of invention disclosures and patent applications
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to provide recommendations on new concept feasibility plans
  • Accurately and thoroughly document procedures and results through the use of laboratory notebooks, protocols, reports, and records
  • Provide consistent communication to team members regarding technical progress
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including downstream R&D, engineering, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of upstream and downstream processes
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

  • PhD in a relevant technical field (Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, other) or Master’s degree with two (2) to five (5) years of relevant work experience in an industry setting.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong background in materials science and biomaterials design
  • Strong understanding and practical hands-on experience with materials characterization
  • Exposure to in vitro mammalian cell culture and related molecular biology tools
  • Ability to work independently and execute project tasks within a cross-functional environment is required
  • Ability to accurately analyze data generated by various analytical and physical testing instrumentation
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to multifunctional team members
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to oversee basic laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practices
  • Ability to quickly learn and develop technical skills in laboratory environment
  • Preferred experience processing and handling human and animal tissue
