Reasonable Accommodations Specialist
Job Description
AvantGarde, LLC (AG) seeks to engage a Reasonable Accommodations Specialist supports the AG client on site at the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), a Title II agency, processing reasonable accommodations request primarily based on disability. This position will focus on conducting intakes, gathering documents related to the requests, conducting disability analysis to determine eligibility, conducting interactive discussions with management to determine an outcome. This is a Full-time position anticipated at 40 hours a week and the work will be conducted 100% remote but must be willing to visit AOC offices in Washington, DC occasionally.
The WORK
- Performs intake interviews to gain a foundational understanding of individual needs and evaluates information from medical and/or psychological professionals to determine eligibility; makes referrals and/or consults with professionals, as necessary.
- Coordinates as needed with medical providers to gain medical information to guide determinations.
- Coordinates with employees and managers to make determinations of essential job functions and confer with management officials on what accommodations may be required or allowable.
- Educates management and staff on appropriate services for and communications with individuals with disabilities; compiles and distributes necessary documentation to verify the need for accommodation.
- Assists individuals with solving obstacles unique and/or common to individuals with disabilities; interfaces with Agency officials to ensure individuals gain equitable access to resources.
- Records interactions with individuals with disabilities and analyzes effectiveness of accommodations; compiles reports and analyzes data related to accommodations, compliance, and program efficacy.
- Applies AOC Reasonable Accommodation Policy to follow appropriate processes and make determinations.
- Inputs case data into tracking systems and Excel spreadsheets
- Participates in status meetings with DEI staff members or managers.
- Maintains confidentiality of employee records as applicable.
Skills & Requirements
The REQUIREMENTS
- An undergraduate degree in a related field is strongly preferred with at least 5 years of experience directly related to reasonable accommodation policies and guidelines as prescribed by Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Experience with Federal Executive Branch application of the ADA, Rehabilitation Act, or related EEOC laws and regulations is highly desired.
- Knowledge and understanding of ADA regulations, guidelines, and standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and related privacy laws and regulations.
- Strong listening, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to assess and interpret individual client needs and to make appropriate referrals to internal or external sources.
- Ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information.
- Skilled in facilitating problem solving with individuals regarding personal, professional and/or priorities.
- Effective collaboration with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate with and relate to individuals of diverse disabilities and backgrounds.
- Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Advanced proficiency using MS Office.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Excellent writing skills with specific attention to detail.
- Excellent, demonstrated customer service skills.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality on arrival to work.
- Flexibility with the approach to delivering work.
The CLIENT
The AOC is a very, fast paced and multi-organizational agency. The agency has special classification and pay authorities and does not follow the standard OPM pay authorities. The AOC is governed by Title 2 rather than Title 5. As such, it has considerable flexibilities not usually available in most Executive Branch Agencies. The HR function for the agency is a lean organization with high priorities. Suitable candidates must be able to work at an optimal level in support of achieving the goals of the organization. Candidates also need to be flexible in their approach and style to learn the agency's hiring authorities.
