Referral Specialist

What Will Be Your Purpose

The Referral Specialist is responsible for processing requests for services and/or procedures requiring pre-certification and/or authorization received from physicians (internal or external), clinical and registration staff.

  • Hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday

What You Will Be Doing

• Receive incoming calls from physician office/staff members for referrals and authorizations.
• Review and process to completion for service types per daily referral spreadsheets.
• Review medical record to extract information related to referral and authorization.
• Report the disposition of the request to the patient and physician (internal or external) through electronic, fax and/or telephone.
• Access and understand websites and forms to complete authorization and referral tasks.
• Communicate with insurance carrier (phone, fax, email or data entry) to submit requested information in order to obtain approval for services requiring pre-certification and/or prior approval.
• Submit requests to management for untimely approval and/or peer to peer reviews.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

What You Must Have

• High school diploma or GED

General Physical Demands

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Jobs are sedentary if traversing activities are required only occasionally.
