Job Description

BakerHostetler has an excellent opportunity for a Regional Human Resources Manager. The Regional Human Resources Manager will be based in Cleveland and will be responsible for the day-to-day HR operations of the Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides HR administrative support and leadership to attorneys and staff; Supervises and oversees all responsibilities of non-legal support staff.
  • Provides advice and counsel to employees regarding employee relations issues.
  • Provides professional guidance and interpretation on workplace questions and issues that require high sensitivity; Strategically addresses business needs, policies, accommodation, confidentiality, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with federal regulations pertaining to ADA, EEO, FMLA, OSHA and FLSA. Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, rulings and regulations.
  • Identifies, screens, and recruits candidates to fill staff vacancies, and works with outside search specialists as needed.
  • Manages the coordination and delivery of attorney and staff onboarding, training, and integration for new hires. Assists in compiling and verifying information for reference, background, and conflicts checks. Prepares staff offer letters and communication with candidates.
  • Attends firmwide HR and Recruiting meetings and plays an active role in ensuring HR functions are following firm procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding benefits, leaves, policies, procedures, and programs using discretion and good judgment; investigates work-related accidents or issues and prepares reports, escalates unresolved issues to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Manages and coordinates Leaves of Absence in conjunction with Short-Term Disability, FMLA leave, Maternity and Parental Leave programs and communicates with employees regarding status.
  • Remains current in industry trends in Human Resources and the legal profession.
  • Participates in firmwide HR projects and initiatives.
  • Supports and promotes diversity and inclusion initiatives at the local and firmwide levels.
  • Works with the Office Administrator and Special Events Manager to plan events and volunteer activities.
  • Assists the Office Administrator with formulating and instituting procedures.
  • Other duties as requested and assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, an advanced degree and/or professional HR certification is helpful.
  • Minimum of 7 years of Human Resources experience with strong, demonstrated HR acumen; substantive experience and knowledge with traditional HR functional areas, including employee relations, recruiting, benefits and compensation administration, and training and development.
  • Knowledge and experience in administering ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local statutory employment regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate difficult and complex information to others tactfully.
  • Availability to work nights or weekends as needed. Travel required, 20% or less.
