Regional Sales Manager
Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of External Sales, leads sales and retention activities of sales staff for all product lines within designated region. Actively involved in planning and achieving expected Plan growth objectives. Contributes to the development of sales and retention strategies for new and existing product offerings.

Essential Functions
- Staff development and continuing education. Facilitates and encourages continuing education related to product knowledge and sales acumen.
- Manages appropriate staffing levels and recruits, and trains top producing sales staff.
- Observes and evaluates sales representatives to identify growth and coaching opportunities.
- Monitors and reviews weekly reporting of sales staff output and production.
- Conducts bi-weekly reporting/strategy sessions with sales staff.
- Follows URAC standards.
- Oversee and control allocated budgets.
- Actively participates in professional organizations and represents BCBSKS at community events.
- Pursues personal and professional development through training and continuing education via insurance and other information sources.
- Monitors the external environment in relation to industry competitive practices, networks, alliances, and other delivery systems.
- Maintains a working knowledge of both state and federal legislation.
- Carries out other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- College degree is preferred with emphasis in Business Administration, Health Care, or Finance/Economics.
- Licensed to sell health, accident, and life insurance in the state of Kansas
Experience/Skills
- Must have at least two years' experience in managing self-funded large and complex group health accounts. Other benefit sales and sales management or health care delivery systems preferred.
- A minimum of five years group health sales and retention experience in a competitive environment.
- Proven track record in team leadership or supervisory role.
- Blue Plan background preferred.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that qualifies for the company automobile insurance.
- Sign a non-compete agreement.
- Comply with corporate compliance program and support and exhibit the company's values of integrity, dependability, service, growth and progress, and courage.
- Knowledge of public and human relation skills and ability to motivate people to include field and internal staff.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Requires understanding of organizational procedures, structure, job practices, rating practices, operating policies, and benefit structures.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of approved sales techniques.
- Possess a working knowledge of hospital, medical economics, and practices.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of all product lines, contracts, related operating policies and rating practices of the corporation and its subsidiaries.
- Develop a thorough understanding of corporate goals and objectives and the affect they have on the sales division.
- Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state mandated laws, alternate funding arrangements, rating practices and retention formulas.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex concepts and develop sound financial business cases.
- Well-honed time management and prioritization skills.
Compensation
BCBSKS Grade: Exempt 20
Minimum salary starting at $151,280
