Regulatory Operations Engineer
Job Description
Inversion was founded in 2021 with the mission to build the first affordable, high cadence return capability for the commercial and defense space industries. With launching to space becoming cheap and frequent, comparable options for return must become available to allow for a robust economy in space. We believe in a future where returning from space is as common as launching to space. Inversion is building reentry vehicles faster and cheaper than ever before through a focus on simplicity.
Inversion's low-cost space capsules will provide a high-frequency return capability for the transport of research, goods, supplies, and equipment to support the future commercial activities and supply chains in space. None of this will be possible without clear and direct navigation through the regulatory processes that govern reentry from space. As a Regulatory Operations Engineer, you'll interface with Inversion's external consultants and governing agencies to secure regulatory approval and reentry licenses for Inversion's missions as well as crafting strategy for the development of high frequency reentry regulations. Have a mission critical role in building a new class of space vehicle and help craft the future of high-cadence return from space!
Responsibilities:
Lead, manage, and support meetings with Government Agencies, Range Safety, and Environment Agencies (FAA, NOAA, FCC, USCG, etc.).
Lead and support the development of documentation to meet the requirements to acquire a reentry license and reentry approvals.
Work with Inversion’s engineers and external regulatory consultants to compile safety analysis, trajectory reports, and CONOPS documents.
Coordinate the process of relevant tailoring of requirements with external agencies.
Perform the role of the Safety Official during reentry operations.
Have an important role in leading the strategic plan of where Inversion’s regulatory relationships and opportunities go in the future.
Basic Qualifications:
2+ years' professional experience with engineering project management
Direct experience working with Federal Aviation Administration Office of Commercial Space Transportation (FAA/AST) requirements such as CFR Parts 450, 415, 417, 431, and/or 435
Strong focus on clear and timely communication and detail orientation
Experience coordinating communications and deliverables with FAA/AST
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field
Systems engineering experience with aerospace vehicles
Experience coordinating communications with additional governing agencies such as FAA ATC, USCG, FCC, NOAA, and USSF Ranges
Experience operating under requirements set forth in AFSPCMAN 91-710 and SMC-S-016
Experience working with sensitive information including ITAR, CUI, Secret, and Top Secret information
Experience establishing written communication formatting and guidelines
Additional Requirements:
- Position may require extended work hours and weekend work.
Position may require standing, bending, and working directly with hardware on the floor for extended periods of time.
ITAR Compliance:
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
