As a Reinsurance Consultant, you will leverage your underwriting knowledge, analytical prowess and creativity to build and shape this brand new role solely focused on overseeing the facultative side of individual policies and risks. In this role you will gain exposure to business units and leaders all across the organization as you partner to develop, implement, and monitor innovative facultative strategies. You will serve as the main point of contact for all facultative reinsurers as well as the product owner for the eRe system managing the business relationship and driving system changes.
This position enjoys a flexible, hybrid work schedule that consists of two days per week in a CNA office with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyzes existing facultative reinsurance trends across the various lines of business to ensure consistency with underwriting strategy with a focus on ceded spend, ceded loss ratios, and purchasing trends.
  • Partners with the underwriting units to develop, refine, or adjust the facultative purchasing strategies and facilitates the implementation of the new and/or revised purchasing guidelines.
  • Supports underwriting operations during facultative purchasing process by providing guidance on preferred reinsurance structure, reinsurance companies, and general market knowledge.
  • Manages relationships with key direct reinsurance markets and intermediaries.
  • Responsible for all facultative reinsurance reporting, responds to and fulfills ad-hoc data requests.
  • Acts as a technical resource and regularly identifies opportunities to leverage new IT solutions in support of process improvements and reporting objectives. Works within multiple CNA underwriting systems such as RAPID, RST, TAP, EPC, FAMUSR, and HAL, as well as the eRe facultative reinsurance processing system.
  • Manages the eRe system for all underwriter training, system upgrades, and potential interface with underwriting systems. Point-person for all eRe system related questions from field underwriting operations. Dedicated liaison for the external eRe relationship.
  • Partners with the reinsurance legal team to adapt and update facultative contract wording as needed.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of all relevant CNA policy forms.
  • Collaborates with the treaty placement team to understand how facultative interacts with the reinsurance treaties to provide purchasing guidance to underwriting.
  • May assist with placement of automatic facultative treaties and/or facilities.
  • Provides business insights and recommendations to support business improvements. Reports findings to Reinsurance leadership.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience by providing instruction, guidance, and advice.
  • May partner with other analytical teams across the organization and/or participate in special projects.

May perform additional duties as assigned .
Reporting Relationship
Typically Director or above.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of major insurance lines of business such as property, casualty, GL, D&O, WC, healthcare liability, etc. and ability to learn reinsurance principles.
  • Business and technical acumen with financial, economic and statistical practices, procedures and principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and presentation skills with all levels of leadership and internal/external business partners.
  • Analytical prowess, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Solid project management, organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, be resourceful and work independently.
  • Skilled with managing through ambiguous and challenging problems, leading through change and taking appropriate levels of risk.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline, or equivalent with preferred Business, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related discipline.
  • Typically a minimum of five years of related work experience such as multi-line middle market underwriting
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint, a plus.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the standard base pay range for this role is $56,000 to $223,850 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
