Primary Purpose and Function:
  • The Release Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing major, minor, and support release activities and related project activities.
  • As a Release Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating delivery team activities to manage coordinated communications, activities, and on-time launch of releases to market and client deployments.
  • You will be responsible for the Release Management lifecycle that involves the stages such as scheduling the release, coordinating between teams, and deployment of release as per the schedule and within budget.
  • As Release Manager, you will manage end to end release cycle from inception to market launch and client deployment and work closely with all functional areas involved in successful market launch of releases including product, engineering, professional services, marketing, sales, account management and finance when needed. You will have to maintain proper coordination between these teams to manage the project release plan and mitigate any identified risks.
  • You need to define the strategic usage of release management tools where needed and appropriate
  • Overall, you will be concerned with planning, validating product quality, tracking, release, client deployment, communication, and risk management.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
From a birds-eye view, you will spend most of your time planning, validating quality, tracking, release, deployment, communication, and risk management. Below are some details:
  • Plan the release of project deliverables and release life cycle.
  • Communicate the project-related tasks such as plans, timelines, requirements, etc. between all involved teams.
  • Coordinate the release schedule and resources required depending upon the third-party applications, defect backlogs, planned releases, and infrastructure updates.
  • Identify the risks that can delay the release and manage them, such that the scope scheduled, and quality of the release is not affected.
  • Track the progress and quality of all releases through appropriate KPIs and metrics. Identify process issue areas and always work to improve the overall release process and efficiency.
  • Make sure that the release is planned, according to the requirements and budget.
  • Schedule the release readiness reviews before deployment and milestone reviews after each release.
  • Create plans for the implementation and deployment as per the release schedule.
  • Plan and give weekly updates on the release activities
  • Make sure there is appropriate allocation of cross functional team resources for success of each release against agreed to project plan.
  • Coordinate across internal teams all activities to deploy the software to client environments successfully.
  • Schedule and manage re-occurring meetings to discuss and manage end-to-end release activities, identifying, managing, and mitigating risks at all levels.
  • Maintain process documentation on end-to-end release management including standard templates, and project plans related to all release types (Major, minor, maintenance).

Key Contacts/Relationships:
  • Trusted advisory relationships with internal teams and customers
  • Release business partner-level relationships with all involved departments for successful market launch of all releases.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed for the Job:
  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or related discipline/experience, or a combination of education and related work experience
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CD/CI) pipelines
  • Experience in working with DevOps and Agile methodologies
  • Working knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle
  • Team management skills
  • Knowledge of traditional agile methodologies, including Scrum, Waterfall, or Kanban
  • Good understanding of application infrastructure, system architecture, and operating systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Project management skills with knowledge of presentation
  • Problem-solving and analytics skills
  • Team and time management skills

Estimated salary range: $105,500 - $140,600
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the GHX's salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base salary is one component of GHX's total compensation package for employees.
