Job Description

NOTE: Candidate must be in the Somerville, MA office 1-2 days a week.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Software Engineering Release Manager who is passionate about the successful deployment of commercial systems employing deep learning and computer vision. As we transmit video and other situational information in real-time from our clients’ devices to their command centers, we turn this data into actionable intelligence that helps to keep people safe.

The Release Manager will be responsible for managing the firmware release process for our Edge Analytics Cameras, and for release readiness ensuring smooth and timely deployment of new features and bug fixes. This individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, QA testers, product managers, and customer support, to ensure successful firmware releases that meet quality standards and customer expectations.

Responsibilities:

Ensure that the Motorola Solutions Video and Software Business Unit produces the highest quality, easiest to use products in the surveillance industry

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive release management and release readiness strategies for firmware releases of Cameras and platforms running analytics algorithms at the edge. 

  • Liaison with product management, software developers, data scientists, and researchers to define system requirements and use-cases for each analytics feature.

  • Work with your team to develop an exhaustive test approach, including pass fail metrics, datasets, and automation as part of an exhaustive test suite for each new feature. 

  • Implement and optimize Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) practices to automate and streamline the firmware release pipeline and ensure a Trusted mainline of code development. 

  • Coordinate with software development teams to define release scope, objectives, and timelines.

  • Create and maintain release plans, including version control, bug tracking, and release documentation.

  • Collaborate with QA testers to ensure thorough testing and validation of firmware releases.

  • Manage and prioritize release-related issues and risks, ensuring timely resolution.

  • Collaborate with customer support to gather feedback, identify issues, and address customer concerns related to firmware releases.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the release process, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in firmware release management, recommending and implementing relevant tools and techniques.

  • Identify and close testing holes in current test processes and automation

  • Lead and manage a team of 4 or more engineers.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Release Engineering experience in complex software systems. 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or equivalent experience

  • Proven experience as a Release Manager or similar role, preferably working on firmware releases for Cameras, embedded systems or IoT devices. 

  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, release management practices, and version control systems.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban.

  • Experience with firmware development and testing processes.

  • Proficient in using release management tools, bug tracking systems, and project management software.

  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Git or other version control software.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

  • Experience being creative and having initiative to improve product quality coverage and effectiveness.

  • Outstanding team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and think out of the box

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Highly organized, creative, and curious 

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced Agile development environment

  • Ability to thrive in an autonomous, empowering, and exciting environment.
