The Investment Pricing Specialist and Business Valuation (BVAL) Valuation Advisory Services Associate serves as a key member of the RSM Valuation Services Consulting team taking substantial responsibility in performing multiple business valuation and financial advisory engagements simultaneously. RSM's Investment Pricing Desk assists assurance teams with supporting and validating the valuations of client investment portfolios in accordance with GAAP fair value requirements. This service utilizes RSM's various pricing vendors to provide security prices, research discrepancies, and solve pricing disputes. The Investment Pricing Specialist liaises directly with our pricing vendors, participating in quarterly due diligence meetings to ensure appropriate controls and procedures are in place. In addition, the position also provides the opportunity to work in multiple areas in RSM's multi-disciplinary valuation services practice.

We offer the opportunity to work on a wide variety of challenging projects that will provide exposure to portfolio valuation, financial analysis, business and financial modeling and forecasting, and valuations. RSM's Investment Pricing Specialist supports valuations focusing on fixed income, securitized products and derivatives, including treasury, municipal and corporate bonds, asset-backed securities, options, warrants, and more.

The Investment Pricing Specialist and BVAL Valuation Services Associate will focus on the Investment Pricing service valuations as volume permits, with additional time focused on general business valuation services, including valuations focusing on portfolio companies of private equity groups, business entities, intellectual property, intangible assets, common and preferred stock, and other securities. These services are provided to assist clients with mergers and acquisitions; venture financing and public offerings (IPOs); taxation planning and compliance; financial reporting; and strategic planning. We also support assurance and tax clients pursuant to their valuation needs.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related area of study preferred
  • Recent college graduate or one year of relevant experience, including financial analysis, modeling and valuation experience
  • General working knowledge of assets / securities, including common stock, fixed income, options, futures, etc
  • Ability to multi-task in a high paced environment
  • Ability to learn quickly, with a particular focus on financial products and securities
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel
  • Ability to prepare detailed financial models in MS Excel and compose technical reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, with occasional travel as needed or requested

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to utilize security pricing information databases / subscriptions including Bloomberg, Interactive Data, IHS Markit, Refinitiv, and S&P Capital IQ.
  • Experience working on the valuation team of a global public accounting (Big 4) or consulting firm or similar industry experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, interface with client management, gather facts, organize data, analyze financial statements and other financial data, identify relevant issues and propose solutions
  • Considerable understanding or experience with valuation techniques and methodologies within a business valuation firm or practice in one or more of the following areas: discounted cash flow, market-based approaches, option pricing models, fixed income securities, and derivatives
  • Strong project management skills, along with a passion for developing and retaining talent
