Reporter

Summary:
Prairie Mountain Media is looking for an experienced journalist to serve as police, courts and breaking news reporter for the web and print editions of the Boulder Daily Camera and its sister newspapers. Responsibilities include covering criminal cases from arrest through resolution and breaking news across Boulder County, Colorado, as well as identifying trends in public safety, criminal justice and related topics.
What you will do:

• Write at least 5-7 stories per week, plus periodic in-depth long-form articles
• Cover breaking news
• Occasionally fill in for other reporters and beats
• Coordinate art requests with the photo department
• Take photographs as necessary for complete coverage
• Monitor and communicate breaking news through use of social media and build sources within law enforcement and social justice communities

What you will bring:

• Degree in journalism, or equivalent experience
• At least three years experience as a reporter at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
• Strong writing, grammar and story-structure skills
• Ability to work well under deadline pressure
• Strong journalistic ethical values
• Accuracy, fairness and correct spelling in all reporting
• An attitude that contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
• Knowledge of Associated Press style, with experience with WordPress a plus
• Three to five years of experience covering breaking news and court proceedings

Additional information:

• Must be flexible to occasionally work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis
• Must live in the area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
• The position also requires occasional coverage in nearby counties
• The reporter will work primarily in the Boulder newsroom

The hourly wage is $20.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition program, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
