Summary:
The Longmont Times-Call newspaper in Boulder County, Colorado, is looking for an experienced journalist to serve as public safety reporter, covering police and fire departments, general assignment and breaking news for the web and print editions. This is an early afternoon/late evening position.
What you will do:

• You are a master of AP style and will help cultivate a strong audience, both online and in the community
• You are a strong storyteller and will possess a unique journalistic voice
• Develop a social media presence as the go-to person for public safety news, and will write about that news both in daily and enterprise story format
• Well-versed in social media, search-engine optimization and will cultivate fresh ideas to bring to the Times-Call and its sister newspapers

What you will bring:

• Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
• One to two years of experience as a reporter at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
• Relevant experience in news reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
• A writing voice that speaks to their audience
• Ability to work well under deadline pressure
• An attitude that contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
• Willingness to experiments with new digital tools and platforms

Additional information:

• This employee must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
• This employee must live in the Boulder-Longmont area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
• This position reports to work in a newsroom in Boulder, Colorado

The hourly wage is $19.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition program, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
