Summary:
The Daily Local News is looking for a full-time, creative and ambitious reporter to cover Chester County and the surrounding area in southeast Pennsylvania for our daily and weekly print and online editions.
What you will do:

• Cover any and all news in Chester County and the surrounding area
• Take photos and work within a team
• Obsess about meeting deadlines
• Gather information through interviews, documents, Internet research and other investigative efforts
• You will be resourceful and innovative in developing sources and/or obtaining information, often on deadline
• Represent the organization in public, while conducting interviews, attending events or covering spot news
• Self-generate compelling story ideas related to assigned topic or beat
• Exercise news judgment and critical thinking to identify appropriate angles for news stories and ongoing coverage
• Identify holes in stories and dig relentlessly to determine actual facts and/or the truth of matters

What you will bring:

• A degree in journalism or communications is required.
• Excellent language skills plus understanding of news gathering and reporting in the digital age
• A knowledge of social media is essential
• Strong knowledge of the use of grammar, spelling, headlines and photographs, along with understanding of AP and local style, news judgment and awareness of the community
• Extensive computer use, rapid and accurate typing ability, expertise with social media and digital journalism
• Work effectively and professionally with colleagues and supervisors across departments and properties
• Ability to resolve potential conflicts gracefully, negotiating changes in content with assigning editors gracefully and to the satisfaction of all
• Sensitive to the nuances of words and actions, assuring that reporting does not perpetuate stereotypes or generalizations about race, sex, age, etc.
• Good knowledge of libel law and understands ethical standards for fairness

Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays
