Job Summary

This position would be within the Fridley, MN Analysis Led Design and Validation Team, with a focus on project leadership/management within design and analysis. They could support any work type that comes into the Analysis Led Design and Validation (ALDV), including Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) and Current Product Support (CPS) projects. In their efforts they would build their design and analytical expertise in the physics of the operating environment to provide optimal design direction to new and existing Power System products via design and simulation tools that we continuously improve to increase the efficiency of our function. Through engagement with the team, in this role they would enable delivery of the right technology, architectures and processes that result in design right first time achieving the best in class product quality.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Acting as a single point of contact (SPC) support to one of our subsystem teams to screen work with external stakeholders and ensure clear asks, deliverables and input readiness to evaluate urgency and importance in assignment.
  • Executing Design and Simulation Work Assignments: deliver component and sub-system level recommendations in Pre-Program Planning (PPP), Value Package Introduction (VPI) and Current Product Support (CPS) through hands on work and utilization of the wider Analysis Led Design and Validation (ALDV) team including leveraging expertise from the broader organization.
  • Contribute to Analysis Led Design and Validation Process Improvement: Work with Analysis Led Design and Validation (ALDV) leaders to identify opportunities to get engaged in development projects (Simulation Based Product Development (SBPD) or 6-Sigma) to improve the Team's capability and efficiency.

  • Applies Principles of Fatigue and Durability - Determines life of components and systems via numerical modeling and/or physical measurements; evaluates component temperatures, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, strains/stresses, wear, and fatigue life to draw conclusions that influence design decisions with internal and external customers.
  • Applies Principles of Noise and Acoustics - Determines the acoustic behavior of components and systems via numerical modeling and/or physical measurements; evaluates both air and structure borne noise, sound power levels, sound quality, flexible body motion, and natural frequencies to draw conclusions that influence design decisions with internal and external customers.
  • Applies Principles of Dynamics and Vibration - Determines motion of components and systems via numerical modeling and/or physical measurements; evaluates rigid and flexible body motion, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, velocities, accelerations, friction, and wear to draw conclusions that influence design decisions with internal and external customers.
  • Product Systems Modeling and Analysis - Impacts product design decisions to best meet stakeholder's requirements through the utilization and interpretation of numerical tools and methods that predict the performance of a component or system.
  • Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
  • Systems Modeling and Simulation - Identifies representation of a system or system element by using suitable analytical tools and techniques in order to derive knowledge about the real system; defines the strategy for modeling, simulation, and analysis of a system or system element by considering specifics of a given situation or nature of the system of interest in order to derive insights for making quality decisions.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering, mechanical preferred.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • 5 years of experience prior to leaving the workforce for a career break.
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
  • Preferred candidates would have a mix of experience using MS Office tools, ANSYS, Windows/Linux operating systems, and desktop/remote high performance computing hardware systems.
  • Position requires an interest in leadership in the design and analysis space.
  • Some background in project management would be desirable as well as previously demonstrated success in communication and collaboration to support driving results and decision quality.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role is $8,000/month (subject to applicable withholdings), plus benefits such as health and wellness while in the returnship program.
