Research Assistant I - Mobility and Falls

This entry level research assistant will work on research projects within the Center for Translational Research in Mobility and Falls at the Marcus Institute for Aging Research, Hebrew SeniorLife. This position will involve assisting with study start-up activities, recruitment, and data collection for studies using non-invasive brain stimulation in older adults. 

Position Responsibilities:

• Under the supervision of the Study Coordinator, carry out research activities on various studies related to the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation (transcranial direct current stimulation) on balance, mobility, cognition, and falls in older adults. 
• Learn and comply with HIPAA regulations regarding the use of Protected Health Information within clinical research studies.
• Assist in the recruitment, scheduling and retention of study participants. Conduct screening procedures over the phone as well as in person, and obtain informed consent from research participants.
• Assist in the acquisition of experimental data, including administering non-invasive brain stimulation, cognitive assessments, study specific questionnaires, and subsequent data entry. 

• Receive training on various relevant research technologies, including transcranial direct current stimulation, movement sensors, functional neuroimaging technology, etc. 
• Prepare and present data and statistical analyses within study team meetings as directed.

Qualifications: 

• B.S. degree in neuroscience, neuropsychology, psychology, kinesiology, or similar field, including relevant clinical or academic research experience. Previous work with older adults is strongly preferred.
• General computer literacy required; experience with Windows, Word, and Excel. Experience with REDCap or other electronic data capture system is helpful.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills, both in person and over the phone.
• Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be extremely self-motivated and comfortable balancing independent and collaborative work.
• Must demonstrate flexibility in regards to project demands; i.e., an adaptability to changes in schedules, coverage gaps, new technologies and unanticipated participant needs
• Superb organizational skills. Must be able to streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom line efforts in midst of multi-tasking and daily re-prioritizing.
• Shows careful attention to details and compliance with participant confidentiality.
• Access to a car for local travel for local travel within the Boston area for study related activities strongly preferred.
