Summary and Scope of Position:

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting DermBiont’s research department in projects related to micro- and molecular biology fields working primarily in data collection, analysis and documentation of results. Therefore, the candidate will be required to have a strong foundation in microbiology, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a team of scientists to complete experiments accurately and report results to the team swiftly. In addition to helping with running assays, the successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of routine activities in the lab making sure that lab inventories and databases are up to date and compliant.

Key responsibilities:

• Contribute to the development of assays for screening and validation purposes.
• High throughput in vitro screening of microbial isolates using developed assays.
• DNA extraction of research samples for various downstream molecular biology / diagnostic work.
• Analysis of experimental results and presentation of results using appropriate figures to colleagues within the research department but also, at times, other stakeholders
• Recording of research findings in the ELN and relevant databases
• Write up key findings as research reports
• Updating existing protocols and writing protocols for new work
• Maintaining inventories of fridges and freezers
• Performing routine lab tasks such as glass washing, autoclaving, preparing common media and reagents, as well as maintaining a clean, organized working environment.
• Comply with all lab safety regulations, BSL2 lab, complete all training programs related to lab safety.
• Stay current with relevant scientific literature, emerging technologies, and advancements in the field.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s in biology or a biotechnology related field, or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular biology, or related field.
• Prior lab bench work experience 1.5+ years including experience with microbiology wet lab skills and sterile technique.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, comfortable working in a laboratory setting including lifting boxes, standing at a bench, working in a biosafety cabinet and climbing on a stepstool. Adhering to laboratory safety (BSL2) and compliance protocols and maintaining detailed lab records.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with others in a team.
