Research Associate II - Analytical Sciences

We are seeking a Research Associate II to perform routine testing and data analysis as a member of the Analytical Sciences team. Reporting to a Staff Scientist, this position contributes to Analytical Science’s molecular, cell and virus biology, enzyme and protein, biophysics and structural biology, and analytical chemistry sub teams. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact as you partner with Process Development and GMP Manufacturing in order to support release of clinical material for all drug modalities (in vivo and ex vivo therapies) This role will be based in Emeryville, California.

How you’ll contribute: 

• Execute routine testing on multiple assays to support potency, impurity, identity and other characterization testing
• Follow SOPs or work instructions during assay execution, author summary reports
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of any scientific experimental plan, data and report; operate under Good Documentation Practice for efficient data management and retrieval
• Ensure that all work follows the required regulatory standards, conforms to company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Follow Environment, Health & Safety policies, ensure safe environmental and working conditions in the lab
• Work on multiple projects to meet departmental and organization goals
• Troubleshoot instruments and methods
• Contribute to laboratory maintenance

• BSc/MSc degree in Molecular and cell biology, Virology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Material science, Analytical chemistry, Organic chemistry or other closely related life sciences discipline, with at least 0-2+ years (for BSc/MSc) of relevant experience along in an analytical development lab and/or a QC analytical laboratory
• Understanding and hands-on experience of several of the following assays: protein/enzyme assays (ELISA, SDS-PAGE, kinetics etc.), biophysical assays (enzyme activity, particle analysis and characterization (DLS, MALS, zeta potential), HPLC-SEC, RP-HPLC, mass spectrometry, SoloVPE), and small molecule, lipid and RNA/oligonucleotide assays (e.g., CE, IP-RP-HPLC, affinity chromatography, residual solvent and small molecule impurities etc.), and molecular, virus and cell-based assays (e.g., ddPCR, qPCR, TCID50, rcAAV, cell bank testings etc.)
• Experience with CRISPR/Cas, mRNA/LNP, viral vectors, gene and cell therapy, CAR-T, and iPSC technology is an advantage
• Experience with electronic systems such as ELN, LIMS, Trackwise, Veeva, etc., is an advantage
• Flexible to meet changing demands to support process development and manufacturing activities
• Ability to prioritize project work with multiple tasks/deadlines, and make effective use of available resource to meet agreed timelines
• Ability to problem solve and identify root cause
• Ability to effectively communicate several levels up and across various functions
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; highly collaborative, team-oriented, thrives in a fast-moving, results-oriented startup environment with urgent deadlines
• Independent and self-sufficient, self-motivated

California Pay Transparency Disclosure:

This position is classified as an exempt position under the Federal Labor Standards Act.  The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $82,000 tp $90,000.  You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
