The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a world-renowned research and education hub at the forefront of natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction. Established within the School of Computer Science, LTI pioneers innovative approaches to understanding, processing, and generating human language in both written and spoken forms.

We are seeking a Research Associate to participate in various research projects at the Language Technologies Institute, School of Computer Science. This includes working directly in research projects that conduct prompt engineering with large language models, data visualization in various language model training processes, and designing LLMs systems to interact with users. It also includes efforts to support various existing projects in managing data, licensing, IRB, and open-source systems.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research in LLM prompt engineering in a research team
  • Conduct research in data visualization
  • Build interactive systems with LLMs to interact with users
  • Develop demo systems with data visualizations techniques
  • Support managing research projects, data, licensing, IRB and open source systems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • One year of working experience in LLM prompt engineering, data visualization, and/or LLM systems
  • Exposure to LLM prompting and data visualization is desired
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
