Job Introduction
The Research Engineer will work on technology projects within the R&D team. These projects include evaluation of technologies and building blocks which support automotive products, advanced manufacturing principles and mechanical integration. This role works on a range of technology readiness investigations requiring deep scientific research, prototyping, advanced development, application analysis, manufacturability, and cost analysis. The Research Engineer will contribute to the team's effort by providing innovative ideas for new or improved products and / or processes.

Job Introduction
The Research Engineer will work on technology projects within the R&D team. The Research Engineer will contribute to the team's effort by providing innovative ideas for new or improved products and / or processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, execute and coordinate R&D projects for/with internal and external R&D departments, supplier companies, research institutions and academia.
- Research latest advances in technology building blocks for automotive products & systems, advanced manufacturing techniques and material properties / applications.
- Work with engineering tools to develop prototype and/or production intent solutions.
- Lead, document, and present the projects.
- Evaluate technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements.
- Design, optimize, execute, and test Proof of Technologies and/or Concepts
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering background with deep material knowledge and application and characterization methods
- Understanding of manufacturing methods, automotive development, and quality control processes
- Understanding of automotive material requirements
- Familiarity with one (or more) typical engineering design tools (Catia, Creo, TeamCenter, SolidWorks, etc.) and common design analysis / processing methods
- Understanding of project initiation and execution including technical and business aspects.
- Knowledge and preferably hands-on experience in at least several of the following fields;
- Understanding of physical and chemical material properties
- Material characterization, including compatibility, performance, and functionality
- Advanced manufacturing, including additive manufacturing methods & technologies
- Mechanical component & system design
- Vehicle & mobility concepts, including advanced material evaluation & component integration methods
- Automotive body panels & manufacturing methods
- CAD-design & digital mock-up
- Simulation methods (FEM, MBS, CFD etc.)
- Knowledge of global trends related to all kind of materials
Education / Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science (or similar) discipline
- 3+ years of work experience in either product development, concept development, R&D or academia in relevant fields, having successfully conducted and completed projects with measurable outcomes
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Excellent technical and analytical competence in materials and select areas of technology and research.
- Strong communication skills, both in internal & external project execution as well as ability to explain complex technical scenarios to a multifaceted audience.
- Self starter with a "can do" get the job done personality.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
- Limited business travel to partners, customers or suppliers may be required
