About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Medicine Respiratory Therapy at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with experience.
  • Must have Basic Life Support (or recognized equivalent) certification.
  • Must have American Cardiovascular Life Support (or recognized equivalent) certification.
  • Must have Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification and Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Must follow Naval Medical Center San Diego Occupational Health office requirements for immunizations.
  • This position may require on-call duties; work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • his position is designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position may be designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
  • The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Respiratory Therapist:

Specialized Experience
: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating respiratory therapy patients, maintaining respiratory therapy equipment, and administering respiratory therapy treatments to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

OR

Education
: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Respiratory Therapy.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
