Job Description

Mercy For Animals aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a just and sustainable food system. We envision a world where animals are respected, protected, and free.

As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

We currently seek a rewards and relations coordinator to join our people operations team. In this role, you will support and maintain all total rewards and team member relations functions and programs, including compensation and benefits, people operations policies and procedures, team member data, performance management, HR relations matters, onboarding, and offboarding.

You will do invaluable work:

  • Serve as a point of contact, through physical mail, email, and Slack, for general team member questions and information needs, as well as third-party requests and information needs; collect, draft, and send out regular people operations updates and announcements
  • Process physical and electronic mail; perform maintenance on internal intranet
  • Proactively maintain flow of people operations information to and from team leaders by building new and enhancing existing communication channels in the form of regular meetings, people operations open hours, and so on.
  • Create, maintain, audit, and retire team member files in accordance with our records policy
  • Maintain our human resources information system (HRIS), including data maintenance, system onboarding and offboarding, payroll profiles, team member changes, and help tickets
  • Prepare hourly payroll, including sending out time-sheet reminders and follow-ups, ensuring proper time-sheet approvals, and making corrections as necessary
  • Maintain and administer our recognition program, including gathering nominations; preparing presentations; and following up on and sending out gifts, anniversary emails, and awards
  • Understand, maintain, and develop our people operations policies and procedures, as well as our team member benefits
  • Conduct research, data analysis, and reporting on people operations topics, functions, and programs; recommend possible actions and improvements
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties assigned by team leader

Your qualifications will take our people operations team to the next level:

  • Experience or interest in human resources, customer service, or administrative work
  • Experience with an HRIS or payroll (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and applicant-tracking database systems (preferred)
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills and effective listening skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (Spanish or Portuguese as a first or second language a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and maintain confidentiality
  • Passion for collaboration, comfort juggling multiple priorities, and enjoyment in working with others
  • Proven track record of personal ownership; a focus on solutions; customer-centric, positive can-do attitude
  • Ability to solve problems effectively, communicate clearly, and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
  • Commitment and openness to continued personal and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles

About Your Team Leader

Your team leader, Alex (he/him), joined Mercy For Animals in January 2022, bringing nearly a decade of combined experience in consulting, real estate, and corporate finance with him. He believes we make the most significant impact for our team and for animals when we work with passionate team members who bring diverse backgrounds and skill sets. He empowers and trusts the people around him and encourages them to own their areas of work while supporting them where useful. Outside Mercy For Animals, Alex spends as much time as possible swimming and cooking with his husband and their companion pug, Wally.

Compensation and Benefits

Earn an annual salary of around $36,500–$41,000 (paid hourly), depending on qualifications. In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including no- or low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; and 401(k) retirement plan, with a dollar-to-dollar employer match of up to 3 percent of your annual earnings.

Application Details

We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter. Feel encouraged to go outside a traditional cover letter and state how you would add to our culture; what we would gain from having you on our team; and how you align with our organizational vision, mission, and values.

Our Commitment to You

Mercy For Animals is a globally minded organization. We are committed to the principles of equity and justice, and our culture celebrates authenticity—enabling every team member to shine. All employment decisions are based solely on individual qualifications, job needs, and job requirements, and potential team members of every color, orientation, age, gender, origin, veteran status, and ability are encouraged to apply. We strive to include candidates from historically marginalized communities and those from or in communities impacted by environmental, social, and economic injustice.

Come as you are, and help us transform our society and construct a truly compassionate food system.
