RF Engineer III
Job Description
As an RF Engineer III (RF Analyst), you will use your skills and expertise to analyze complex products to drive communication subsystem performance for the Crewed Dream Chaser Spaceplane! The communication subsystem comprises active and passive RF components, antennas, software-defined radios, and other complex technologies to serve our mission.
In this RF analyst role, you will demonstrate 'systems thinking' to support performance-based architectural trades, make vs. buy decisions, specification generation, and requirements verification, and ultimately ensure hardware delivery and certification to achieve mission success. Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Must-haves:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
- Higher-level degree may substitute for relevant experience
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Thorough understanding of RF engineering principles and practices, including various RF performance modeling, analysis techniques, and use of industry tools
- Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design & development teams
Preferred:
- Knowledge of industry standard RF principles as they apply to design, analysis, and test.
- Proficiency analyzing and characterizing RF performance of communication components and subsystems, including but not limited to, link budgets, SNR degradation, BER, antenna coverage, cosite interference, etc.
- Experience with RF analytical software such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS HFSS, ANSYS EMIT, ANSYS SAVANT/SBR+, CST Microwave Studio, AWR Microwave Office, and AWR Visual Systems Simulator (VSS).
- Experience with Schematic capture and PCB layout & viewer tools such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition, PADS Power Logic and Layout, Gerbtool, etc.
- Capable of developing substantiation documentation to demonstrate compliance to related requirements and industry standards to include test plans/reports, analysis documents, and compliance checklists.
- Experience effectively developing and delivering technical presentations
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, US Department of Defense and/or US Military
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $104,827.91 - $144,138.38
