The Risk Analyst contributes to the overall financial analysis and data integrity of the MEMIC Group by utilizing technical skills and data analytics to assist the organization in mitigating risk and accurately analyzing and reporting on financial information. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining decision-support data models, building and updating information dashboards, assisting with third-party data requests and ad hoc reporting requests, and working to streamline the departments’ various data collection and analysis processes. Â
- Supports data input on business models, risk management and forecasting tools to aid Senior Management in financial decision making and risk management.
- Supports, maintains and develops interactive business dashboards and other reporting and decision support solutions to effectively communicate complex financial and risk-related information to internal stakeholders as well as external regulatory agencies.
- Assists in updating, modifying and streamlining existing modeling and forecasting practices by collecting data, analyzing business results, transferring data into new formats, creating new or experimental frameworks to collect data, building tools to automate data collection and searching through large data sets for usable information.
- Provides support for various internal and external data projects and processes, including but not limited to the external actuarial review, the annual reinsurance contract renewal, and the annual review by the company’s regulatory rating agency.
- Documents data sources and data analysis methodology to aid in business continuity efforts and ensure that all data provided by the Risk and Finance departments is consistent, accurate and appropriately sourced.
- Assists in automating and streamlining recurring Risk department processes, including but not limited to control testing, business continuity planning, and risk register maintenance and updating.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree, with concentration in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Risk Management or Mathematics preferred, and 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of work and education experience.
- Sound understanding of data procurement and analysis procedures, strong analytical skills, and the ability to take initiative on projects requiring communication with various internal stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels across the organization, including the ability to effectively communicate complex data processes and results to a diverse audience.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with multiple teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills (complex functions, macros, data tools, etc.) and experience building PowerBI dashboards.
- Experience with financial modeling, forecasting and variance analysis preferred.
- Knowledge of programming languages like SQL, Python, R, and Scala preferred.
- Familiarity with business intelligence and analysis tools (e.g. Tableau, @Risk) preferred.
